Looking to the future, 2.0 will eventually be replaced by another base set. What are some possible directions WK could go with MK?
2.0's release saw a generational gap between existing figs and new figs in regards to storyline.
Will 3.0 see a similar gap with non-compatibility faction-wise?
Could we possibly experience several sets worth of rotation that pre-date the current storyline?
Could races/alliances non-existent now be released because they existed in some former time?
Perhaps elves are one people and not divided among different social structures. (ie High Elves, Wood Elves, Dark Elves)
--------------------------------
How about game mechanics? If WK intends to continually introduce new game mechanics, what do you think they have in store for players in the sets to come?
Will they simply churn out new subfaction abilities to replace the ones that are in this rotation?
What new game changing mechanics will be introduced? (soaring, surge, doubletime)
Players recieved new proficiencies.
:wand:  :wing: And some have even been reworded recently to make them more powerful as the sets grow. What changes to existing proficiencies or new proficiencies do you think we might see in the next 12 months?
Might players get a Healing/medic proficiency? A Swordmaster proficiency that allows the use of multiple items? A Hero proficiency that allows the use of multiple Relics?
well considering 2.0 was set as about 100 years after 1.0, we can guess 3.0 will do the same...
Faction wise, some will most likely be elimanated, maye the DC finally lost the war and were wiped out, but were replaced by the last few remaining blood-cultists, starting the set with a similar start as 2.0's elemental freeholders...
They are discovering new islands south of the land, maybe a new countinent will be found with new races? Hence new factions...
Maybe new levels of the battlefield will be added, we already have ground and soaring, maybe they'll add underground and underwater...
with underwater being the buttom of a deep water terrain piece and only wave pieces can go there. or underground with a new ability burrow, so it can move and fight unhindered by whats above it.
maybe they will add a class system instead of weapon types, mages, warriors, archers, thieves, healers, golems, mechanics, etc etc etc.
or maybe, just maybe, the atlantean empire will conquer the land before that happens so 3.0 never has to come out.
Actually, though, the Rebellion started in 419 Tz when Karrudan was assasinated. The current "game year" is 435 Tz, so it's only 16 years after the Rebellion actually started. 1.0 flowed into 2.0 without much of a time shift, but at the time, all the factions had major internal reorginazations (except Draconum, Solonavi, and Shyft) that caused them to essentially become different, though similar, factions.
With the addition of spell books and nons carrying items, aren't at least at MK 2.3?
I'd love to see 3.0 played on three level boards -- underground/water, land and air (although I don't know how you would physically set it up...)
Why can't they just reprint dials for the old pieces to make them 2.0 legal? If you sold mini-boosters with random dials for each retired release, you'd get cash-flow and people could have an opportunity to use the old sculpts.
If they stick to their current realease schedule, that means we'll be getting 3.0 next fall. Are we even ready for another revamp so soon? Are we ready to loose yet another (base) set?
hmm, by next fall we should have a base set release or even this spring I think.... after two maybe three expansion sets beyond the MK 2.0 base set I would think another base set is in order... a breather set if you will for both collectors and new gamers to maintain some level of entry into the game tourney wise I would think. as for a 3.0 entering the field, eh who knows...doubt it though... there really isn't any reason for WK to contemplate the idea for the moment IMHO. but... I can't see why the above ideas couldn't be added to MK 2.0 as it is?... for instance sub factions have been mentioned that they will come and go with the tides of war. ie. : deathspeakers. and new sub factions are being added as well as new mechanics. I like the idea of under ground... imagine a sub faction for Black powder rebels or even the MS that allows units to travel under ground, perhaps a flat brown plastic poker chip-like piece can go be placed beside the unit to show that it is under ground... I don't know..I'm just throwing stuff out... but ideas like those posted above could be a possibility... new mechanics do draw the players attention and of course fears.
I'm guessing there will be more additions then rennovations from now on.
1.0 to 2.0 changed the basis for how the game was played, I doubt they would do that again in the future unless 2.0 results are that major alterations are frequently beneficial.
mk 3.0 ....
well theres nothing to stop wk from bringing it out.
3.0
seeing that it is the modern day...if its 100 yrs later
maybe :wand: will be very scarce but very powerfull and :golem: will be commen
or they could change the game mechanics substantially defense doesn't affect hitting but damage received eg(dmg is attackroll - defense).
4.0
Draconim are instinct and their bones are on display in atlantis museums.
unlucky DHC .....well watya expect dinosaurs never survived... :p
I think that wk should do a revamp of dungeons before they start thinking of 3.0.
They could add so much more dimension to dungeons to give a more RPG type feel.
What would be really cool is if they have 3 figs for each hero
one fig able to lvl from 1-5 then 2nd 5-10 then 3rd 10-15.
It would allow for continuous play.
Imagine a tourny when you enter as a team of 3.In the team are 2 players (the hero's) and one is the DM.
So you rotate until you have played all the DM's
and the team with the most treasure and expierience wins.
prize support will be a problem for those hardcore gamers tho'

I expect the next base set will compare with 2.0 like Unlimited compared to Rebellion.
I wouldn't expect any major changes. I think the expansion rules would be combined in a new rulebook (Mounts, spellbooks, etc.). There might be some rules changes to clean up some balance issues. Some might seem major, but I don't think it will be close to the number of changes you saw in 2.0.
From a "fluff" standpoint, I think WizKids might tie a major event to the release. A lot of tension is building all over, with skirmishs here and there. Perhaps WizKids would bring it to all-out war with the next major expansion. Everyone will have to pick a side.
Originally posted by ArmyC I just want a game to play, not an addiction.
Isn't that just one in the same ;)
I think setting up a rotation as base + 2-3 expansions then retirement is too quick. Maybe once 2.0, DR, sorcery, and what ever the next set is are all out they can have a base set like Unlimited was to rebellion(as previously mentioned) with the exception that this release should not have its own set of uniques, they should be reprints of existing uniques (ducks for cover from the collectors) and nons and it should be larger than the normal releases.
That, imo, was the problem with unlimited as a solution to new players entering the game... they still could not get the good playable uniques and there was too small a selection within the nons.
Then, I guess similar to mtg, have two groups/blocks of 2-3 sets of product released before the new 3.0 base set is released. The 2 blocks of releases can evolve 2 separate but overlaping story lines. Because each release in a group is related, they can be smaller (1/2 the size of a current release?!?) and not have to introduce new mechanics, subfactions, etc with every new product that comes out.
Then when the new base set comes out, have a selection of uniques/nons from every set that has come out so far. At this point any figure not reprinted are retired. The next release after this would then retire the figures in DR that were not reprinted. and so on.
This way new players can pretty much jump in at any point and be able to pull all existing figures that are in the rotation w/o having to go to the secondary market. And you can hold onto your old figures incase they come out in a new base set or are duplicated in a new smaller relase.
Okay, I guess I could have said, do it like mtg and all will be fine... but putting it all down seemed easier.... lol

Hmmm, I seem to recall someone saying this before, but...
Industries copy the proven leaders. Until WoTC falters with MtG, people will copy their business practices...
Set rotation will occur because it gets too crazy trying to playtest with 1,000's of figures/cards...
Set rotation will occur because they need to keep a positive cash flow...
MechWarrior & HeroClix are now following the MK lead with cards that affect gameplay (the Topps influence??)...
I hope 3.0 is released no sooner than 18 months after 2.0 (figs are more expensive than cards), and I hope that it continues the improved figures we've seen from 2.0 forward...
