Last night I played in a venue/warlord supported event and the strangest thing happened. Not only did I lose, but I lost to a War Yak.
the scenario was a 500 point army with domains. so not really planning on winning and thinking about having some fun, i created a 3 draconum army consisiting of
domains used in matches: Mountain pass and Dragon Gods.
Figured Dragon Gods sounds cool, so i'll try it.
Boy was I wrong. The card states that i cant control any objectives, and must completely eliminate the opponents figures in order to win. in exchange i can make close combat attacks without assigning the figure a token.
My opponent played a Vextha Army with blad eof dominance and luckily with Vitherai I was able to take Vextha out with ranged 5 damage attacks. After about 20 minutes I had every figure of my opponents army beat except for one figure. A War Yak!
My throne Monk was at full life. Vitherai had just fell out of its bounding spot, and Chroma was down to 6" move and 2 damage. So into play comes the Dragon Gods domain. I could not catch up to the War Yak and eliminate it with 3 figures . My opponent double-timed the #### out of the Yak to keep him out of reach. Finally just when I had the Yak pinned down with just under 3 minutes to go, I attacked with a hurt Vitherai - 10 attack against his pushed war Yak. I needed and 8 since the yak had battle armor. One shot of 5 damage would win me the match and the tournament at 2-1. So I toss the dice and bam....... a 3. The Yak lives! and runs around for 2 more minutes until the end of the match.
Moral of the story:
a.) Dragon gods good? War Yak better?
b.) You cant keep a good Yak down.
c.) Yak... its what wasn't for dinner
d.) Rub my lucky Yak's foot ... It beat 3 Draconum.
You can never assume victory will be yours. I am sorry you lost, but it is an amusing tale. :) I will never forget in one of the casual games I was playing I was trash talking about how my figure was going to stomp his, and before my roll I announced "feel the power of ***" As you might have expected, I rolled a critical miss, and lost. My opponent was rolling on the floor laughing.
A firend of mine like to play with imps. He could catch a Caldera with it(when Caldera lost command, he rolled a 12). Isn't that cool? We just call him Imp-man since.
