I got lucky and pulled a Kem Ravenbane today, the last of the sorcery uniques i wanted. And having some tough cult enforcers, i tried to see what i could do with them.
Bearing in mind the other apocalypse army showing here, im trying to go in a more focused direction.
For the Lords of Doom!
Kem Ravenbane 100pts
Galeshi Sunsword 40pts
Bracers of the Giant 34pts
3x Tough Cult Enforcers 123pts
3x Standard Solonavi Shades 87pts
1x Weak High Elven Warrior 16pts
Total 400pts
Domains:
Darkness
Storm Gale
Magestone Stripmine
Kem is the main beatstick of the group, and crowdkiller. Completely imune to range, he can charge into the middle of the enemy position and lay down the hurt with Sweep and Ram.
His 3 cult buddies come along behind him to engage the mob as Kem softens them up with his 14 attack, and making sure that all minions of apocalypse have at least a 9 base attack and shutting down gangup. Following at the sides is the group of shades, harrassing at the flanks of the enemy's army, thanks to their great speed of 10, and ability to copy abilities. Lastly, the high elf whom flunked his Legolas test and whom got so mad that he joined the Apocalypse, goes for grabbing objectives and supporting as needed.
I choose the 3 domains for limiting range overall, and to ensure that the group of melee units reach the frontline unscathed. Note, since mindtap is not a ranged combat action, you can pull it off despite Storm Gale.
Also i thought Darkness was in character for Apocalypse, and it will also help with slowing down calvalry.
Very nice army. Kem can keep his cult buddy's attacks up, but more importantly they can keep his up. With 3 cult enforcers Kem is likely to have a 13-14 attack value his whole dial. With the bracers adding to his damage he'll be extremely dangerous even on his last click. I especially like how you use the shades, Kem has a bunch of great abilities to copy(crushing blow, ram, charge, sweep). The only change i'd suggest is dropping *High Elven Warrior and bumping up two **shades to ***shades.
You might want to change your domains too. Since you are using Solonavi you might as well use Tezla's Shade. Rain and Mud would go good in this army since Kem and the shades can charge. I think Storm Gale, Rain and Mud, and Tezla's Shade would make a good domain set for this army.
Hmmm. Rain and mud is a poor idea. Because it limits speed to 8. And the 3 standard shades have 10 speed. Also, im not too cool on changing them to tough shades. Because their speed drops to 8. Also Kem would have 10 speed with Galeshi Sunsword. So you would amputate your speed potential.
I think the effect of tezla's shade is too negligible to count on. But i have Citadel of Rokos available.
Also the standard shades have greater longevity with their innate vampirism. Also i was going for 8 models to minimize wasting actions, so you have 4 models to move every turn.
Checking over the domain cards i have, i noted Mountain Pass. It doesnt allow surge or doubletime. As well makes life difficult for cavalry. Once apocalypse have a caster, rite of the bleak horn is going to go very well with domains nerfing surge. As it grants Charge to all apoc units.

Tezla's Shade is great. A lot of people i've seen have their revenanter as their lowest point guy. Even if it's only an Orc Marauder he can harass someone. In a 3 or 4 round tournament there's a very good chance you'll play someone with something good to steal(like their revenanter).
