Three venues today, none decorated.
Two didn't complete their signup (no Envoy assigned) - so they had no prizes (and eveyone walked).
One venue (Mesquite TX - 12pm) had 4 players - one about 14, one 16, one late 20s, and me (early 40s).
Only two dressed up (me and the 16 year old).
I would have won the costume LE if I hadn't won the Marquee.
I'll pass on the Fort Worth TX venue Saturday (due to a need to demo lots of Steve Jackson Games, and conduct a Magi-Nation Tournament for a local store's International Gaming Day).
I'll be back in Fort Worth and Hurst/North Richland Hills for 2 more Marquees Sunday -- I've got to win the Houston.
I will say that i myself do like getting prizes, but i must say that i find it a little saddening that everyone at that venue left since no prizes were recieved.
First CS marquee for me, small venue. No costumes (myself included), no decorations, but still really fun time. Only 1 other player, but it was a great game. I do feel a little bad since i walked away with first prize only after the last turn (i was losing from like the 4th turn onward), and the other guy had played so hard. Seems like we'll both be going to the same marquee tommorrow, so he has my absolute promise if only 2 of us show, no matter who wins he will get first prize.
(btw did anyone else feel rather dirty accepting that picture and that stocking?:noid: )
my venue decorated my self and my friend both in costume
6 players we had an good time thou there was two rules questions that came up that where hotly contested...
ill post about them else where...
wish i had more time off this weekend i would make the other events in my area want the carpet bagger badly...
Went to my venue today as a player and not Battlemaster. Everyone was shocked that I wasn't *running* a game.
The venue wasn't decorated and no one came in costume, though I came straight from work as so was in my flight suit. The other players were going to cede the costume prize to me since I was at least dressed in aviation theme, but I wound up winning the marquee. The remaining players rolled off for the Bloodhawk.
I took a lot of pictures, though with only six players, there wasn't much to see!
If anyone gets a spare LE Bloodhawk they'd like to trade for MWDA figures, give me a shout!
Check six!
P.S. Don't try to tangle with an Avenger in close quarters if you're flying a Bloodhawk. You never know when your opponent's going to roll a critical failure on a collision check.
:ermm:
Had two people show up for the Marquee. Both in costumes(sort of). Lot of interest from other people in the store. Comment I kept hearing(3 different people) was I am waiting for the planes of other nations to come out before I buy any. Still positive experience. Counting days till Origins.
6 players were at the venue i played at today. The best costume winner had an actual air force uniform that his father (or grandfather) had worn (WWI or WWII, i don't recall which he said), complemented with a cigar hanging out of his mouth. Hands down winner there!
I managed to win, going 4-0. There were three rounds of swiss, followed by a single championship round. My squadron was:
52 Carmen "Killer" Flores (Ace)
45 Steve "Glamour Boy" Gardner (Veteran)
51 Winifred "Brandy" Noonan (Rookie)
52 Karl "Wrong Way" Gruner (Rookie)
Worked out fairly well for me, mostly due to some lucky rocket shots. The squadron i faced in the final match (who i'd played earlier) were the three BB avengers at full. Showstopper is brutal, as i learned in my first battle, so i concentrated on him first in the final match. Woohoo!
When you drive 100 miles to play, find a store employee giving excuses that I knew were bunk (especially since 2 other stores in their chain of 8 stores did get an Envoy signed up for the event). They were willing to award some of their extra HeroClix LEs in place.
NO THANK YOU! I'm playing Crimson Skies, and your superheroes don't fly in 1937!
I'm an Envoy - a Judge - a Battlemaster - I've got all those figures, I don't want more (primarily because I'm not playing those product lines anymore).
That first venue had 3 players on hand - 2 Envoys, and a gentleman who had dropped his kids off at another store (evidently the kids won't play if dad plays). I (and the other Envoy) went to that store. I won, his eldest boy won the Houston.
Venue 3 was a dinky card shop next to a military base - no one else showed up.
Luckily I should have 2 chances tomorrow for the Houston - as long as the noon event wraps up quick enough that I can make the 45 minute drive to the other event 3 hours later.
Some venue in Rome GA put up the Carpetbagger, the Houston, and the Lorilei photo / stocking up on eBay. The Carpetbagger was over $36, Houston above $21.
No one at the marqee tonight. The battlemaster (shouldn't that be wing leader/wing commander?) had never played, and had been asked to run it by the store owner.
I showed up in a leather bomber jacket, scarf, jeans, and combat boots, with a white undershirt to go for that pilot feel.
No one showed up on time, so I was getting ready to teach the battlemaster to play when a store customer asked about the game, and since I had both squadrons on me I taught him to play. Had great fun, and a number of people came round checking it out.
Took my sky mat/battle mat I'd done up. It's felt, sky blue, with white felt clouds on it so you really feel like you're flying arround.
I let him choose squadrons, and he took the Broadway Bombers. So I helped him fly and choose manuvers (so basically did a little flying against myself). My goodness though, ack! He couldn't miss. He hit me for like 3 or 4 every turn. His gunnery roles were awesome. I called it after an hour and 20 minutes. One bloodhawk shaken, one firebrand shaken, other firebrand one or two away from shaken, and only one plane untouched on myside (we just played with all four planes, find that's more fun then the 200 points limit, seeing as there were no aces).
So I got both prizes and the picture for being the only one really there to play the marqee, and for teaching both the battle master and the other guy how to play. The BM gave a spare fellowship plane to the guy I played.
Have to say this is far and away one of the best games I've played (table top war games anyways). I sure hope it takes off. I'd love to run some campaigns with it. Do some zep boarding action ones, resque the guy from the train, assault a landing field, etc etc etc.
The first was 8 people and 2 players dressed up. The Wing Commander (Battlemaster) dressed also. The other person had a FANTASTIC costume but was running the Marquee down the road later that day. So he defered the prize to me. What a great guy! I had tried to get my pilot costume together but with limited funds before the Convention in 2 weeks I was stuck so I put a little imagination into it. No one said you had to dress like a PILOT! LOL So I got a Moo moo and put my hair in an old scarf and wore house slippers. Yes I went into a gaming store with about 50 other gamers in a Moo Moo. So for that round they dubbed me Leslie "Moo Moo" Ku.
I played
Charlie- Rookie
Wrongway-Rookie
Glamous Boi-Rookie
Killer-Ace
In 5 games between both tournaments Killer only took 6 damage. It was amazing. In 2 games she was the only plane I had left on the field. So me and Killer will play many games together. :classic:
We had 8 at the first and I went 2-1
And 6 at the second and I went 1-1 only losing to the guy who won. I had more fun then I have had in MONTHS with any other game. I love when you get to a point were alot of the planes are moving at the same speed and NO ONE knows where you will end up. We had several interesting situations and 5 total Critical Misses on Collisions which TOTALLY changed the outcome of a few of the games.
I'm pleased there will be a 3rd squadron soon. It was a little weird playing every game against the HK or BB. It got a little annoying trying to make sure we knew which Hk were mine and which were an opponent. In the second game they dubbed me "Brick Wall" Because I kept causing Collisions and their theory was I would have no problem colliding with a Brick Wall. LOL
So choose as you will
Leslie "Moo Moo" Ku
or
Leslie "Brick Wall" Ku
Well I guess for my first time playing CS, I was a little imtimidated but in the end had an enjoyable time. I played the 2 Bloodhawks and the one Firebrand (w/beepr seekers) from the Hollywood Knights pack. I loved the game so I'll be playing it a little more. By the way, my score was straight zero's but its was fun.
