Just picked this up two days ago. I"m about 2/3rds through it. Quite an interesting read. I can't say I'm big on the Pulp Fiction-style though. I won't spoil anything, but there's a big mystery thats slowly being revealed. I think I know, but one can never tell. If anyone else nabs a copy, post up with what you think.
Some stores get them early. I work at a Borders, and we got ours in on Friday. I suggest asking your local stores about a week or two of the release date if its in yet. Mechwarrior books don't have laydown dates, so can be sold as soon as they are received, just most stores don't make it a priority to get smaller releases like this out in a timely manner like I do :)
I just finished it. WOW I didn't expect that at the end. In hindsight, maybe I should have.
Spoilers after this point, highlight the text to read it:
If my dating is correct, the Custos was born on 3025. My initial thought was that he was Paul Masters, the knight from the Marik knights group (don't remember the name). But, I seem to remember there was an elemental named Paul in the Twilight of the Clans series, but I might be wrong. I'll research it more tomorrow.
Interesting how the Republic seems to still exist, but in a different form with apparently the same name, minus the Knights and Paladins. No hints either to whether the HPGs come back up, or if something else replaces them, and who the sabatuers were.
Highlight for spoilery response to Silent_Recoil's post:
Silent_Recoil: "But, I seem to remember there was an elemental named Paul in the Twilight of the Clans series, but I might be wrong. I'll research it more tomorrow."
Yeah, Paul Moon, the Smoke Jaguar Elemental who really hated MechWarrior Trent. IIRC, last we saw of him was in a hospital on Huntress after the fighting ended there; Trent comes in to taunt him a bit. Moon had suffered a pretty severe leg injury, if memory serves.
It was just a pre-recorded message from Stone. It was never specified that he was alive or not. I bet though, that he's off somewhere watching what's happening.
Glad to see Blaine Pardoe working in the BT universe again. I'll have to try to pick this one up soon. Seems like I just finished Wolf Hunters . . .
Did anyone else notice that the next book, "Dragon Rising," is listed as a Michael Stackpole book by Amazon? I thought he was pretty much done with BT/MW. Guess we'll find out the last week of March, when the book starts appearing.

Amazon is incorrect on Stackpole's title.
Dragon Rising is by Ilsa Bick and is a sequel to Daughter of the Dragon. It is scheduled for February.
Stackpole's book is actually titled Masters of War and involves Clan Wolf. It is scheduled for April.

Hi meow,
Nice to nice another Mechwarrior fan from Singapore. I don't really play any of the game, but I am a great fan of the Mechwarrior novels. The notion of The Republic really mirrors to the situation here in Singapore. I especially liked Sword of Sedition and Fortress Republic. So I have a few important questions...
1) Does this mean that Exarch Levin's Fortress Republic plan is working? What exactly is the state of the situation with Fortress right now?
2) I've heard from this board that Devilin Stone makes a rare appearance here in this novel. What does he say? Will he return?
3) We know from Wolf Hunters that one of the Paladins is a traitor. Is he mentioned in this novel?
I'll try to pick up Surrender Your Dreams next week at Borders or Times. I am really hoping that The Republic will regain its strength soon and reassert itself. The notion of the Republic is precisely what the Inner Sphere needs.
I sincerely hope you could help me with these important queries.

ok let me answer ur qn
1st qn: levin did not plan the fortress republic stone come up with the plan long time ago as he do not trust the inner sphere and well he pretty right. also now we know where all the mothballed mechs/war ship went to. well they are just used by the spec ops of the republic and the black ops of the republic and well republic do have at least 1 warship in operation. well the state of republic well is pretty unsure no details yet
2nd stone make a rare appearance in a recorded msg. i do not know wat he say. apparent the author is keeping us hang up high on wat stone says to redburn
3rd if u are saying is the paladin marik is traitor, well u are wrong he have the best interest in the republic but his methods of doing it is questionable as wat redburn and his knights are doing......well i can say is that wat they do may be bad but they all think on the long term welfare/survival of the republic......there is only one traitor paladin and that is crow but i do say he is just too damn unlucky. he kinda sabo by house liao/banson and force to recommit the crimes he once have done b4 and dun wish to do again.......well we do see crow in the end redeem himself against the traitors of planet liao when liao being attack by house liao
1) Marik is not a traitor? His actions in Wolf Hunters seems pretty treasonable to me. What is his plans exactly? My thoughts is that he has given up on the Republic and wishes to return the former Marik Prefactures to their owners.
2) With Exarch Levin in charge, does this mean that Damien Redburn is now working for Spec Ops now? I thought the Ghost Paladin did does things.
3) Does this book describe what Devilin Stone is like? Is he still alive?

Thanks a lot!
1: no marik not traitor. his loyalties still lies with redburn(he is marik mentor) and the republic. he have no interest in returning former marik worlds back to marik as there is no longer any marik left to begin with(sorrie marik fans but the authors paint leftover house marik a very grim picture). i think he play a part in abosrbing duchy into the republic in the near future as the republic 21yrs in the future and the republic is alot more bigger in the future.
2: yes and no. apparently there are 2 or 3 spec ops in the republic ghost knights being one of them. the spec ops that redburn have in command now is even darker/more unknown by any spec ops grps in the republic
3:no it only tells stone is alive and observing things from afar or his adgents are doing the things for him
