Who lives relatively close to Kalamazoo, say, within an hour?
If you play Mechwarrior, you may have heard of Virtual Worlds and their Battletech pods. Full immersion cockpits + complete control of virtually everything on your battlemech = Geek Swooning. Seriously, this stuff is REALLY cool.
Recently me, Norcross, woodearth and Jegred2 had an opportunity to take our gaming group out to Virtual World's Headquarters. It's essentially back to every tech company's "Square one", that is, being operated out of a building in a residential area. That aside, the owner is trying to breathe some life back into the business and to that end, would like to start a localized gaming league.
The League would meet about once a month to run a tournament. There are enough variations, maps, types of games and so on to keep this running for quite a while. I imagine he would want compensation for the use of the Pods in some form, the price of which I am not entirely sure of at the moment. Figure on something resembling the price of a retail video game, per person. I want to hammer out some details with him about this, so don't panic, I might be way off base on that.
The point of this thread is to see who would be interested in doing this? I for one would definitely set some $$ aside each month to do this; it's essentially akin to playing paintball, only you're driving a 100 ton war machine around melting holes in stuff, usually your buddy's mech :devious:
If you are interested, go here, register in the forum, and post in the thread about a "New Gaming League", I'll have started one. If we can get enough people organized together on this, it could really take off! SO GO DO EET!
UPDATE: I'm talking with the owner of Virtual Worlds about a Grand Melee tournament in mid-February on a Sunday, if possible. Keep your eyes open if you are interested, but if you would like to tentatively sign up, post here or on Mechjock.com Thanks!
I just talked with the guy last night, he said his schedule is pretty mucked up until mid March; it's not ruling out a February tournament, just chances of it might be slim. Check out the Mechjock forums, his call-sign is Propwash.
