Pretty much what logic dictates. Average laser rolls places the beam in the middle of the board, with denser shot points at each inch of the sides. Hm hm...despite that, I'd advance along the edges of the boards and do my damnedest to avoid the center of the battlefield.
I take one last look at the MW Chat room on my way to bed and see MechThran mention that he's arguing with Trevor over what the safe area looks like for Scenario I...
I just played it, do not test the eye in the sky.he is very angry, I was doing fine at the egde of the board when i started to move across to join the battle. two turns two dead center hits from the laser.also you are not safe in water, especailly if its anywhere 12 inchs in. you take heat at the end of a turn if your hit and you can not normally recover. I watched as a powerfull atlas took three hits back to back to back, it won me the game
played this SL on saturday, my army was Sugar Rush w/ Bruce Theron and 3 RD Huitzchopochtli's.
Round One:
Against a Davion player, a few lucky laser strikes managed to put his mechs in some heat trouble and knock AP off his tank. Win.
Round Two:
The laser suddenly turns against me...shutting down my Atlas. My slow-moving tanks are easy picking for the opponents' artillery. Loss.
Round Three: The laser absolutely annihilates my mech and fast moving mechs manage to make my tanks eat it. Loss (in less than 30 min!).
The laser really made this thing unpredictable...one of the best storylines I've played.
1. The highest probability of a hit by the laser is wherever the biggest mechs are. I saw an Atlas and an Ares get hit at nearly every step across the board. The Ares was totally trashed before it made it across the board and the opponent only shot it once, the kill shot for six. Needless to say the kids running the assaults cried fowl about the laser hits.
2. My army:
3x BR Solitaire w/ +2+2+1 pilots and 2x repair, 1x RISC APM
1x BR Vixen w/ Graves and Inferno Flamers
Turn 1 I'm on the other side of the board. The heavy mech based armies fell prey to APM and the Solitaires in general, the Vixen is for infantry and wild cards with its agility and greater range.
Swept overall. Only one game with a mech lost.
Now let's discuss the opposite side of the coin. I played a full 50-minute game against Sange last night. We didn't overly worry about the laser and played within 12-14' of the center for the whole game. None of our units were hit by the laser at all. Now, we had some misses by 1/4 inch or so, but no hits at all.
Sange played OEJ + Hammerfall, HK Avalanche + generic and the starter set Zibler. I had BR Vulture + Rodrigo + RHL, BR Vixen + Kelly + APM, 3xRD CBAs, 2xBR Purifiers, BR ISBA, BR/RD SA.
Not one hit all game... What are the odds? ;-)
How have you folks been ruling the units destroyed by the laser? I've been ruling that no one gets VC 1 for a unit destroyed by it. It's been working so far.
