Hey gang,
I'm a long standing HC player *just* started really playing Pirates after WWE (although I've had some of the ships before). After playing last night I had a few quick questions.
These may seem rudimentary but please, bear with me as I'm trying to figure this game out.
1) Is there a comprehensive rules list somewhere? It seems like each release of the game adds keywords and effects (Mysterious Islands, Glaciers, new factions, etc). Is there a pdf or something that consolodates all this info?
2) Can a ship that is being towed back to its home port be fired upon by an enemy vessel?
3) What happens/what can you do if you tow an ememy ship back to your home island?
4) The rules state 4 gold pieces per island. Does that limit players to 12 pieces each total including unique teasures or can you put more gold per island if you want to use smaller increments/unique treasures?

Most of the different keywords and terrains can be found int he Ocean's Edge set of the rules. There is also a comprehensive FAQ available on the official WK forums in the Pirates: Rules section (the PDF version on the website is a condensed version, which will probably be much more useful to someone just getting into the game.)

The instant you tow a ship it becomes a member of your fleet, so your opponent (the previous owner) can legally shoot at the ship you are towing.

You can unload any treasure onboard, and you can begin giving it repair actions.

Thank you so much for your help!
4 gold per island is just the recommended amount for a "standard" game. You are free to increase or decrease that amount as much as you like in your own games.
Is there a "team ability" for the pirates like in heroclix. I can understand that the "recognized" nations wouldn't have anything in particular, except maybe the English hating everyone and Americans liking everyone, but I was more curious about The Cursed.
Mercanaries start a S off their home island, and some Vikings can raid other people's home islands.... but the heck is the bonus (or problem) with being Cursed? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

There are a number of abilities scattered throughout the sets that give cannon and/or boarding bonuses against a specific nation or against everything except a certain nation, but beyond that there really are no "team abilities" like what you'll find in Heroclix.
That's not to say you couldn't make up your own though... :)
Yeah! The game, from its inception had touted the ability of home gamers to make up thier own rules.
There once was a thread dedicated to off hand uses for pirates. Some use them for D&D naval campaigns but the best I saw was somebody used them to play merchants of catan. COOLBEANS!!:D
The problem we used to get tangled up in knots around here was that some people wanted to change tournament rules and only Wizkids can change that. I always focused on tournament rules because I was Privateer and ran a good game at my local (now closed down) venue. I was a sticlker for the core rules and some people took offense because they thought I meant they could not have house rules. WK has always highly incouraged house rules. They touted this as a "Beer & Pretzles" game and when they started out there was no tourny scene until LOTS of players demanded it.:D

Shameless plug here... :D
For anyone here that doesn't also frequent the forums on the WK site, here's a link to a pair of PDF files with the rules for playing Pirates with Settlers of Catan: Pirates of Catan
