If I am reading this card correctly, does it allow you to see an additional card every draw phase, and either keep it or put on bottom? If so I don't understand why this cardx4 is not in every deck, card advantage is the greatest power in CCG's.
True, this card is quite powerful.
But sometimes sacrificing 4 cards for something can be quite a debate. I would probably play with 2 per deck as a staple.
You are not getting an extra card. You look at the card, decide if you want to leave it on top or put it on the bottom. You have to activate BOO then recover it during recovery. I don't think you would need 4, because you can only have one on the field at a time. It helps to determine if you will need the next card, but it has nothing to do with card advantage.
chaos That explains it then. We were using the card as put into your hand or on bottom of deck. Vague wording. Still good but nowhere near what I thought
Base of Operations
Activate->Look at the top card of your deck. You may put that card on the bottom of your deck.
South American Sentinel Base
Activate->Return target army Sentinel character card from you KO'd pile to your hand.
Two different cards, two OBVIOUS meanings. Nowhere on BOO does it even mention hands. If you were to drive up to me and say, "Look at my brand new car!", is that an invite for me to take the car for myself? Hopefully not. This is nothing more than a request for people to read the cards and think about them before they make blanket assumptions on their uses. It will make the game that much more enjoyable for all involved.
No it is vaguely worded. "You may put that card on the bottom of your deck." Or do what, make a paper airplane out of it? It would have been far better to print the text "look at top card of your deck, then either place it on the bottom of your deck or return it to the top." I'm sure that in your infinite wisdom you would never interpret a cards text wrong though....:ermm:
Well, I've interpreted cards incorrectly before. I'm sure we all have. But then again, when I found out that the card actually did exactly what the text said it did, I didn't blame the card for my mistake ;)
Here's the thing chaos. The only time you are _ever_ allowed to put the top card of your library into your hand is when an effect directly tells you to or when you draw a card. BoO tells you to _look_ at the top card of your library. If BoO said _remove_ the top card of your library and look at it, then you would be correct, they would need a phrase telling you to return the card to the top of your library. But BoO just allows you to _look_. The card remains the top card of your library no matter how you choose to _look_ at it i.e. take it off the top of your library to better see it. The only other thing BoO allows you to do is change that card from the top card of your library into the bottom card of your library. But never with the effect does BoO change the fact that the card remains a part of your library.
I think Brian was a bit harsh; your question was not unwarrented. There _are_ no stupid or unwarrented questions here. We're all learning things daily about this game. :)
If I'm harsh it is only from being deeply involved in Mechwarrior (it really is fun)(sometimes) and seeing too many rules lawyers in MTG (been playing since Aug. '93). I would just like to see players take some time and see what is on the cards and not what they would like to see. If/when this game takes off and the pro series hits, what happens when they observe time limits? I know, the game plays Mercury fast, so what? Say they make it 15 mins a game, 45 mins a match. Now, my opponent has played with his friends for years (good guys, just misguided) and we disagree on a seemingly obvious call. We need a ruling, I've just lost what could be a crucial 5-10 minutes over a misperception. Honestly, I'm a nice guy, sadly, I'm now near the frustration point. If it was an interaction question, fine. A timing issue, fine. Heck even a startegy point, GREAT! Then we're thinking about it. But...A big BUT!...this is an insertion of ideas onto cards and using (seemingly) ignorance as a cover. I also am willing to bet that I am speaking for a silent majority of people with this kind of request for some though before posts. It's my time too.
Wow great tiger, you are an arrogant bastard. If you would spend some of the energy you obviously partition for flaming people for simple questions on the internet leaving your card shop maybe you wouldn't come home to your hand every nite. Note that the name of the forum is "rules of combat", I had one and asked it. I guarantee it is played incorrectly elsewhere, and I was not sure so in order to avoid said tournament gaff I asked. Obviously you put way to much value on games and need to take a look in the mirror if a post on a forum MADE for asking questions causes you such rage. In short, get a life, loser.

This is precisely the reason why we should be taking the time to politely and thoroughly explain the cards _here_. Flaming people and being rude results in less people asking questions about things they don't understand...which presents _more_ of the situations you seem to be so worried about. This is the place where we need to check our ego and arrogance at the door and take the time to _help_, regardless of our own perception of those questions. I don't think you were being a prick, just a bit harsh. :)
Agreed, Locke. Everyone needs to relax here. No one is hurt by the asking of a question, and if anyone feels that a question is somehow beneath them, they should just move on, instead of taking the time to demean the poster. If you are going to take the time to respond, be helpful.
I have been in several debates on this board, and neither I nor my fellow posters have resorted to hostilities towards one another. We are supposed to be helping each other, or at a minimum sharing our enjoyment of the game, let's try to keep it enjoyable for everyone.
It was not the question or even the idea that offended me. It was the assertion that the card was wrongly worded. I've witnessed many "rules-lawyering" situations that just bring a game to its knees and players that search for the opportunity to do that make me bristle. This may very well not be one of those occasions, but just the suggestion that an extremely simply worded card was misleading bugs me. If I've offended, so be it. We're (hopefully) adults or at least mature enough to handle a response/counter-response situation, if not, it's not my problem. BTW, I never attacked chaos directly, if you look at the answer you will see that it was a general request for common sense using the question as a backbone.
Thank You,
Brian.
PS
Chaos, throwing around invective from a safe vantage proves nothing. I do not need this forum or any other to make myself feel good. I do not even need to explain my life here. If you or anyone else would like to talk, as adults, I invite you to join me for dinner during Origins. Heck, I'll even host at my house. Now you know two things about me, if you were so inclined to escalate this, go to other forums and find where I game and move forward with your objective.
