Hi guys, i'm still learning about this game. And while I was play testing, several issues came up.
1. Cards (charactrers and PTs and locations) that have "Activate >>> ..." can be activated whenever? unless it has a specific condition right?
2. Do you HAVE to set a card down for resource every turn?
3. During the recovery phase, do I HAVE to recover 1 stunned character? I can't just let them get KO'd?
4. If my opponent activates a location as a response to my attack declaration, can I respond with a Ka-Boom! to negate the effect of the location? or once he activates and exhausts his location card, the effect lasts throughout the turn?
5. This is more of a personal preference question. If you have 4 Savage Beatdowns, would you use all 4? Personally, I think it's good to use 1-2 with a mix of other plot twists such as, Flying Kicks or maybe even a One-Two Punch. I think if I had 4, I wouldn't use all 4 in a deck.
6. Whats your character to non-character cards ratio? mine is 31-29 for my Brotherhood deck.
EDIT: forgot about this one
7. Is this legal or played right?
I activate my already dropped Destiny in my build phase to target a character. Then I drop anther Destiny in the same build phase, the first Destiny gets KO'd. Then I activate the new Destiny's effect to target anther character. My question is does the first Destiny's effect work as I intended or it disappears since the first Destiny got KO'd?
1. Basically, yes. There are exceptions but most of them are readily apparent.
2. No.
3. You do not have to recover a character.
4. Locations that aren't in play won't generate their Continous Powers(like Danger Room). Locations that have Triggered or Activated Powers generally aren't stopped by Ka-Boom!
5. I'm not a big strategy man. I like smashing. That's strategy for ya.
6. See 5.
7. Once generated a delayed Triggered Power like Destiny's will not go away. So the first Destiny's Power will occur if the target is stunned.
4: Wouldn't Ka-Boom prevent the trigger effect on a location from happening though? Cause as soon as the person says their going to active that location you can use Ka-Boom as part of a chain attached to his activation of the location. And since chains are resolved backwards the Ka-Boom destroies his location then since his location is KOed it's can't active it's power. But ya have to do it right away if you wait till they do something else like attack/build then the location's effect has already happened at it's to late.
7: On this one check the other post called Double Destiny. They have long discussion going on that. But in short the answer is yes you can do it ;).
You may respond to the _effect_ that goes on the chain, but the activation of a land such as Savage Land can _not_ be responded to because it is a cost. You may not respond to payment for effects, only effects themselves. And once the effect is on the chain, short of removing it from the chain, there is no way to stop that effect from resolving...even if you remove the source of the effect.
But in this case your no responding the the COST of something your responding to it's activation and thus the use of it's power. Like it's getting ready to use it and hasn't yet. And you are allowed to respond to the use of powers. And a chain is a chain. It's been stated in other examples if you use one effect to prevent another from ever coming to pass. Like the most common one is an attack. If you declare and attack on one of my guys and i say use Search & Destroy to stun your guy then the attack never happens and thus no damage is figured out and play continues. Other examples are like forcing someone to exhaust after they have declared their going to use an aciton to prevent them from doing so. Since they are exhausted they can't either attack or use their power.
P.S.
Also after some think it's not effect or the cost your targeting but the generation of the effect. Thus if you stop it's generation/activation. So it's like the poor folks at the location are getting rdy to do something and you spot that and in response you blow them all up heh.
Follow this simple rule, once an effect is on the chain, the ONLY way to stop it is to either make the target of the effect illegal or use an ability that says negate target effect.
For example, if someone activated Dooms Throne Room, the only way I could stop them from revealing their cards is to play Global Domination
3 Global Domination
Negate target location effect.
Ongoing: While you control a Brotherhood character, locations your opponents control do not ready during the recovery phase.
If I used Ka-Boom, dooms throne room effect would already be on the chain.
As for the comparison to attack, you need to remember when you are using the chain and when you are not. The DECLARATION of the attack uses the chain, the RESOLUTION of the attack does not. The Declaration effect that is on the chain says something to the effect of, "If at resolution the proposed attacker and proposed defender are still legal, give the proposed attacker the attacker characteristic and the proposed defender the defender characteristic"
Which means if you make the attacker illegal before the declaration resolves, you stop the attack.
Also becuase the resolution does not use the chain, you can remove the attacker after the declaration resolves to cancel the attack.

You cannot do this. Once someone exhausts or activates for any sort of ability or power, you cannot pre-empt them. eg: If I use my Pyro, you cannot use your Dazzler to exhaust me before I activate. As has been pointed out: the activation/exhaustion is the COST and does not chain. Period. There is no chaining of the 'generation of effects', only the effect itself can be chained. Zero exceptions.
A negation effect works on the same principle - it is negating the EFFECT, not the generation or cost, and therefore if I somehow negate your Pyro's effect, he remains exhausted.
An attack declaration is a different can of worms altogether. As cdaniel pointed out, you may respond to the declaration of attack by exhausting a character before they can attack, therefore negating the proposed attack.
The reason for this is that when you declare an attack YOU HAVE NOT EXHAUSTED yet. You ONLY exhaust after the attack is found to be legal, and is considered to be an 'official' attack. You have a window of opportunity between declaration and attack to play effects that can pre-empt the attacker. Once the attacker exhausts and the attack is official (the point where you can start targeting attackers and/or defenders) YOU CAN NO LONGER PREVENT THE ATTACK.
In the Ka-Boom! scenario, once I activate a location it is 'exhausted' as cost and cannot be prevented from exhausting. Its effect goes onto the chain. At this point you can remove my location but the effect will resolve even if my location is KO'd.
Once an effect has been generated the only two ways to stop it are: to negate the effect, or to remove the TARGET of the effect. The source no longer matters, it has performed its duty for King and Country =)
