I'm new to the game and don't really know the rules. I checked on the net, but this was the only place I could find.

There's a card name and a version. For example, MOR-001 is Archangel, Warren Worthington III.

Archangel is the card name while Warren Worthington III is the version.

If a card's version does not read "Army", you may recruit only one character with that name, regardles of which version it is.

That's why even though there's four Wolverines, you may only recruit one to fight for you.

Recruiting another Wolverine, regardless of version, will KO the existing one.

So If I Have 3 Different Versions of Dr.Doom I can only play one?

Yes. But you can use the other Dooms to power up the one you lay down. (See the rule book for powering up)

does that mean that if a character is an army character, you can play as many of them as you have in your deck?

yes sir, because they aren't unique. There are some cards which are not characters which state they are unique, like the pogo plane. So you can only have 1 in play at a time

Let me save you a lot of trouble: the rulebook is wrong concerning unique characters and equipment.

The rules on unique locations are used for all unique cards.

This means you may put only one copy of a unique card into play.

That does not limit you to having only one copy in play.
