Can a player attack with his Character...baiting an opponents plot twist such as Nasty Surprise and then the attacker uses MP on his doom just so nothing happens?
I have seen this used many times as a way to lure out plot twist.

Nasty Surprise targets a defender.
This means the attack is underway so Dr. Doom is already exhausted.
Mystical Paralysis cannot be played at this time unless Doom is readied by some effect.
Thank you very much Zaxx, I figured thats wut the ruling would be....
That card cannot be that broken...
So I take it attacking characters exhaust as if it is a cost to attack...and dont wait to exhaust until damage calculation ensues.
Originally posted by DeuceRIPsta supposedly now the friend that tried out this combo called UDE today and they told him that the cards chained to it were wasted....
i.e. Nasty Surprise
Yeah, right.
And I've got Alex Charsky's cell phone number in my Rolodex.
If indeed the attack has commenced, there is no way to make it illegal. This is a well-documented fact. It's even on page 20 of the basic rulebook.
For the sake of argument let's say that once the attack is launched, Doom is readied by a Doom-Bot. Doom is still attacking.
Now Mystical Paralysis is played, exhausting both Dr. Doom and the defender.
Doom is still attacking and there's no requirement that the defender be ready so MP makes absolutely no difference at all.
It would seem the heart of the issue is that someone involved doesn't understand the timing of the play. Perhaps you should ask your friend to explain his reasoning to you.
same exact thing i pointed out to him....thats why im thinking he isnt understanding fully wut they are even telling him or trying to hard to read in between the lines of wut they are saying instead of just reading wut is actually there....
Hey I just wanna clarify something so can someone answer this example.
Player A: Has Human Torch: Hotshot out and intiative. Declares attack step.
Player B: Has Dr. Doom: Diabolic Genius. Doesn't respond to declaration of attack step.
Player A: Exhausts Human Torch to begin attacking Dr. Doom.
Player B: Responds with Mystical Paralysis exhausting Human Torch.
Does Human Torch still attack Dr. Doom? I'm pretty sure he does but I just wanna make sure. Also, if Player B responded with Mystical Paralysis at the declaration of the attack, could Player A responds by activating Human Torch's effect. One more thing, in the rulebook it states that if a attacker is removed from a team attack the team attack continues without that character's attack value. So would the character need to be removed at the declaration of the attack or after it is exhausted?
1. Hotshot declares attack on Dr. Doom (attack proposal effect goes on chain)
2. Players may respond by adding additional effects to the chain (Mystical Paralysis) or let attack proposal effect resolve
3. If Hotshot is still legal to attack (in this case not exhausted), Hotshot exhausts and becomes an "attacker" and Dr. Doom becomes a "defender."
4. Players may add effects to the chain. MP could still be played here, but it would "do" anything. Hotshot is already exhausted and the attack is underway. Making the attack "illegal" (removing flight, etc.) won't stop the attack from continuing.
5. Once chain is empty and players pass, attack resolves.
It does not matter if an attacker in a team attack is made illegal/removed before or after attack proposal resolution, at this point in time, the attack continues as a team attack.
so do u concur with Zaxx, Locke that a player cannot attack an opponent, allow the opponent to play plot twists, and then turn around and MP their own attacker? Thus making the defender waste PT?

Zaxx couldn't have said it better than "Timing is everything..." Once an attack is underway i.e. attack proposal has resolved exhausting the attacker, it will conclude. It doesn't matter if you ready/exhaust/remove flight or range or any number of other things that would have made the attack illegal before attack proposal resolution. Once started an attack must conclude. If you are playing or allowing your opponent to play Plot Twists that require a "defender" or "attacker" (Nasty Surprise, Savage Beatdown) as a target before attack proposal has resolved, you are playing improperly.
