I'm playing against a Doom deck with my X-Men/Brotherhood deck. It is the fourth turn and my opponent has initiative. He just recruited Dr Doom, Diabolic Genius. I have one x-men and one Brotherhood character. Later on the turn, I flip over Mutant Nation, in response he plays Reign of Terror to return my 2-cost X-men character to my hand. Will this chain of events prevent Mutant Nation from being flipped over?
When a card that say it happens "at the beginning of the recovery phase" does the effect happen instaneously once that phase begins or can I respond to these effects? In Magic, I know its the latter but I'm not sure here.
Although never stated, you only get one support row right?
I'm looking for Jeff Donais's email address too. I know someone here knows it.
Not 100% sure here on this, but will take a shot...
The text of the card says "Play only if you control a Brotherhood character and an X-Men character. Draw a card." Then it has the Ongoing effect.
There appear to be two requirements to play this card. First threshold of two - second you must control a brotherhood and an x-men character at the same time.
The "Play only if you control a Brotherhood character and an X-Men character" is a requirement - just like the threshold cost is. Once the requirements are met - you can play it.
Just like other abilities - once an effect is played - only a negate effect or something else that removes it from the chain can prevent it. So removing either or both of the two characters won't prevent the plot twist from happening.
Here's another example. If I have a Doomstadt in play and another resource in play as my only two resources. If I play Micro-Size on an opponent, and in response he plays Ka-Boom! targetting my Doomstadt - that won't stop the Micro-Size from happening even though I will only control one resource and the threshold cost is two.

The act of playing Mutant Nation has already taken place. Removing one of the teams from the board will not stop it. Not to mention the Ongoing effect of the card begins immediately. Only the draw a card effect goes on the chain.

That's when it triggers. It is the first effect placed on the chain, but you get the opportunity to respond before it resolves.

Micro-Size doesn't require Dr. Doom to be played. Effects will still check upon resolution, so Ka-Booming your Doomstadt will mean that when the effect resolves it looks to see if you control Dr. Doom. You don't, so it will only give the character -1/-1.

That's true - but my point (off the top of my head and perhaps a bad example :) ) was that even though now I only have 1 resource in play - it won't cancel the microsize (that has a threshold cost of 2) that's already on the chain. (I just looked through a deck of mine for a quick 2 cost PT for an example - Maybe I should have used Cover Fire instead. :))
