In Tucson, AZ we have tournaments at three different stores on three different days (Wed, Fri, Sat). Prize support from UDE hasn't started yet but I am hearing that it will be in August (I am pretty sure on August). So far we go for packs or supplies as prizes.
I live in NY. Not the city though. In my area we have 2 local tournies that I go to. One tourny, we all buy a pack and make a prize pool, usually top2 split or something.
The other is pay $5 to get in, it makes a prize pool, and top 4 get store credit slips.
All in all, it's not too bad. I've won more tournies than anyone in my area though, but that's only because I can spend the money for the 'power' cards. I've not quite won back all that I've spent, but I'm getting there. A couple more tournies maybe.
Oh, and this saturday, I'll be going to PCQ Rochester. Hope to see some folks there.
I have been trying to get regular tournaments going in my area. But despite this game selling like hotcakes, the players seem to be spread out all over. So there has yet to be a single tournament played at any of 7-10 local shops. I've tried helping to organize one, and thought we'd actually pull one off this past Saturday, but 5 people didn't show and we had to cancel. I'm trying even harder to get one going for this weekend, with the idea that once one is held word will get out, and it'll be easier to keep them going. But as others have said there is no UDE prize support yet. So the local shops usually charge $5-10 for entry, with the prize being either packs, or a box if there are enough entries.
