I want to try and see how to make the most out of your money.
Lets say you have 300 dollars and you want to make a common BBH deck. If you cna buy boxes of $50 dollars each you will get 6 boxes.
Now, there are 77 rares in the marvel origins set. If we are to say that we find NO reapeats, you will get about 1.8 of each card, but ets round it up to 2.
To get the most out of your money it would be to sell what you are not using.
Im going to put up some good rares and price them at 15 each.
thats $330. You've made your money back, and with intrest. you dont even have to sell ALL of them off, you can now trade with every and anyone, and get the rest of the cards you need. you, you can just repeate the process, and gain 30 dollers each time.
Now, not everything here is worth $15 but, some are aove that price, so it evens out.
this in mind, i can do this throughout the game. when web comes out, i can wait till prices fo down while i trade for my deck, then do the same.
Therefore, you arnt losing any money whatsoever. Your investing it and making sure you dont have to spend another dime. So you dont need thousands of dollars. all you need is a nice bit of cash and use it wisely.
Um... most of those cards can be purchased for far, far less than $15. I don't think many (if any) will go for $15 either...
And as much as you'd like the correlation to be perfect, it's not going to be. Example - 7 boxes and I only pulled 1 Blindside (and there are many other cards I only pulled a small amount of).
Also keep in mind that in about a month, WoSM is going to likely shift around the Meta quite a bit. Brotherhood, in a healthy Meta, should not be as dominant and therefore I would think one would want to have a good collection in all areas of the game... not just Brotherhood.
I get your overall idea though - ignoring the specifics of what you're saying, you can easily make your money back.
The best way? Find a dealer that can get you and perhaps some friends a case. That way you can likely get your price per box in the $30 range, snag... 7 boxes and EASILY have TONS of tradeable/sellable rares to either boost your play set massively and/or make back some of your expenses. It also helps if, say there's another Fizzle card (a team-specific hot card), you don't play that team and sell all the copies of that card you have...
Either way, being smart about collecting and buying can make this game incredibly affordable... it also involves knowing when to stop buying boxes and just hunt for singles through trades or buying (though most places that sell cards are a rip - I've seen one card going for $5 at one retailer and I went somewhere else and paid $2).
Edit:
If you're referring to selling on eBay... I mean say you're going to sell your Signal Flare. I can buy one for somewhere around $5, so why would I bother with eBay. Or I could trade some of my MANY excess cards to acquire one... why bother with eBay.
Oh, and another way to get back your losses is to get good and play in some of those lovely 10k tournies. ^_~

Exactly. I just mentioned brotherhood because most people like that deck.
All im saying is that this game is affordable when used correctly.
Even if you sold all your rares for 5 dollars each yousr STILL making your money back. and even if you do keep you high priced cards, there are others you can still sell. all im saying is to buy in bulk. singles may be cheaper, but boxes pay off in the long run.
But now the waiting game begins. we NEED the spoilers for WOS. That way we can quickly buy and sell what we need to. if FF is going to be huge, then we need to get ready for it.
You gotta understand: Most places either A. dont have a hobby shop close by or B. Just getting into the game, meaning they dont know what they're spending.
I know it may be taking advantage of a person, but hey, we all gotta make a profit
Personally I'd rather not rip someone off b/c if I were them and someone ripped me off, it'd actually turn me off (to a degree) to the game.
The caliber of players that a game has are just as important as anything. If I'm going to be dealing with a bunch of bastards... I'm the kind of guy who'd say "hey dude... that card's not worth $20 - go buy some packs instead" or something like that.
I'm all for finding ways to make this game more affordable, but it's not really worth screwing ppl over. Just imho.
no, you see, thats LYING to a person. I'm not saying go around SAYING that a card is worth more than it is, but hell, if someone offers, take it.
If your stupid enough not to look around for prices before paying for something, then you deserve it. If I sell something at 15 dollars and they buy it, then a week later find it somewhere else for something cheeper, is it my fault? no.
I hate to be ruthless, but if i can gain money, i'm gonna take the oppertunity to take it.
Look at magic. I know and have talked to many of the pro players. some of them are nice. The MAJORITY of them are jerks.
People will play. if jerks play it, then people are still playing. A game is a game, and so long as people enjoy it, then people will support it.
I dont advice this lifestyle, but only in gaming. Sometimes, you just gotta do what needs to be done. and sometimes, it's that which could get me a noch above.
If someone gives me $100 dollars for an Alfred, im going to take it. its money in my pocket. So long as people are willing to buy, then it doesnt matter how high I put it at, because there will be a buyer. Look at Savage beatdown and Have a Blast. Are they REALLY worth around 20-25 dollars each? Thats pretty high for my taste, as you need about 2-4 of them. BUT, people buy em. So, if thats the way it is, thats the way you gotta play it. So long as there is a buyer, then it doesnt matter who pays for it.
If i sell a card more than you would sell it then im that more richer.
when I was playing yu gi oh some guy gave me 40 dollars for a Reload. Now, Reload is a 10 dollar card. The card had just came out though and was one of the more popular cards in the set. Everyone at the tournament was looking for one. This guy wanted to trade me for it and I said it wasnt for trade. He asked if he could buy it...i told him I didnt want to get rid of it. He pulled 40 out of his wallet and I said its yours....
moral of the story, you cant help it when people want to rip themselves off.
