The World's Greatest Sorcerer On:The Web of Spiderman
Hello there mortals! It is I, Dr. Strange, The world's greatest sorcerer and i thought id like to share some thoughts the next set to be realeased: The Web of Spiderman.
Lets break it down into what the teams have and how they will effect the current metagame:
Spiderfriends: Ah, hasn't this team gotten so much better? With Iceman, your deck has a very nice source of Hand manipulation. At ok stats for his cost of six, i think he is a fine card.
Scarlet spider is amazing. I haven't seen the new spdiermen yet, but with this card, any new ones can be played right along side the old ones.
Willow O' The whisp seems pretty ok. My question is this: Is evasion activated before or during damage calculation? I mean, if you can have damage on the stack then use evation, then Willow seems pretty sick, taking down 'Tooth then gaining +1/+1 for it.
Cloak's ablity seems fun, but his stat's kill him. maybe he gets a bouns if they make a dagger card and while she is in play, it give him some stat bounus. But for now, i dont think he's that great.
rocket racer is great IMO. Evasion makes him less as a liablity for his poor stats, and his abllity is real nice.
Firestar seems ok at best, but I think there will be better options then her. flight and range makes her ok, and her ablity to flametrap is sick, but an 8/8 for 5 RC character is just too low for my tastes.
SF Plot twists:
Nice try seems rather amazing. negate the effect of a plot twist or activation effect on one of your sf characters at the snap of your fingers? Yes sir! This protects you from overload or other nasty plot twists. Imagine this with sentinals! With the three drop spidy, your wilds could swing in unstunned, and with Nice try, no overloads! And they said they hated the purple guys....
Ace reporter is one of my favorites. More hand and deck manipultaion! exaust an SF character to see your opponent's draws, set up what they will get for the next two turns, and then put anything too threatening on the bottom! all this for a common? I'll buy it.
My Hero isnt one of mine. Its a bit iffy imo, but it does help as it makes a character a blob, in a sort of way. you theres a nice, tough character that can block in the SF set, then i might change my mind.
Now, onto the Sinister Syndicate.
Chameleon is your man when your teaming up sinster syndicate. for just one, he becomes any team you'd like. take THAT mirage.
Mysterio seems to be taking on the theme of what seems to be breaking the uniqueness rule. Its like having army cards, but not really. It makes me think that "get them my Petssss" seems a bit better. i forget exactly what it does, but I do know a that you need to tap FIVE characters to activate. Thats rather hefty for the SS team. But, with cards like mysterio and jackle, theres actually a much better chance of seeing someone make use out of it.
Jackal seems rather weak at first glance, but his ablity to put in any SS guy under three looks great, if you can keep him alive. a 4rc 6/6 doesnt live that long.
Shriek seems rather good. she gives a +1 to all your guys, but, again her stats make her a lil stinky. a 2/1 rc2 guy doesnt fair well against wilds and toads.
With carnage, im having mixed feelings. His stats seem ok at a 10/8 but is still a bit fraigile. His ablity to give +2 to all characters seems to make him much better I think. I dont think he'll be boosted much though, unless you have enough on board for a massive team attack (im really sencing a SS SF team up card...hey, dont laugh, they made Common enemy and Unlikly allies didn't they?)
Kain is good in draft. If there was a sideboard id find a home. other then that...not much.
SS plot twists:
Dangerous experiment. If you don't see how this is good, dont play the game. Im serious. just stop. Better yet, play, and play against me in a PTQ so i get a win :p . I dont think i need to explain how good this card is.
Rejivination: Eh. Life gain is as good as it is in magic (hint: not really good)
SS location: Lions den gives a +4 bonus if you pay a resorce point. Ok i REALLY think theres going to be an army card for SS. If there is, I think it will do quite well.
Fantastic Four: Silver surfer. Yup, he's pretty insane alright. IMO...make common enemy from Kibler's list and take out an apoc for him. no harm, no foul.
Marvel's First Faimly: Eh. its situational airborne assualt that gives you a equipment card from your grave to your hand if you control mr fanatastic, +1 def if you control Invis woman, and range if you have human torch. (you also get +1 atack from thing, and flight as well as range from Human torch, but thats what airborne assult does anyway)
I could see use in a common enmy deck where you could use it play Diabolical Genious, then flip it again to give everything +2/+2, but still, situational, and not great. Maybe for Equip decks, but then again, theres always salvage.
Doom: The good docter always gets the bets toys. Devil's due is quite good, and decoy program would be insane if it didnt have the word ARMY on it....grr..
Xmen: Archangel: what can he do? Kill saber tooth, kill anything that moves so long as its def is under 10 and it doesnt have flight or range. Ditto goes for any OTHER flighing chracter you control. Yup, flying kick just got better (then again, so did mega blast :ermm: )
Sentinals: Oh you mocked them, didnt you? Well these purple helmeted warriors have struck back with a vengence.
Number II mark II: The almighty slayer of flametrap and overload. two of Sentinals biggest threats have been taken out. the down side is, that his stas arent amazing and hes not army...but still rather insane.
Tri Sentinal: While i dont know his stats, i dont car. he could be a 3/3 for his 7 rc cost and i still wouldnt care. When he comes into play ALL ARMY SENTS IN YOUR KO PILE COMES BACK TO LIFE. yes. If you get pwned by flame trap IT DOESNT MATTER. So long as you can live until turn 7 you will be just fine.
Skrull:Lazerfist. Yup, i didnt expect it either. But what shes really used for is a walking childrend of the atom for FF. Im still uneasy about her, but she might make the cut.
All in all, the set seems great. Lots of amazing cards and SS as well as SF seem amazing. I cant wait till the set comes out in a few weeks.

i dont think he works that way
but it would be awesome if he did :devious: ...
and im not sure if ur aware of this
but Carnage and Shreik giv atk to ALL characters
including your opponents, so that might change your opinion of them
i agree with pretty much everything else you hav 2 say
except i dont like Mark II, Number II
once he's stunned Flame Trap works
and he slows down Vomit decks 2 much anyway
i think a SF/Xmen deck would be great
a lot of those spidey cards work great w/ Xmen cards
Iceman, Will O' The Wisp, Nice Try, mayb even My Hero
As far as I know, the way evasion works is you stun your defender during the attack. When the attack resolves, there is no defender, so the attacker readies and no damage results.
thing11 is correct if you use evasion, you stun your character and take damage equal to the recruit cost of the character. your opponent then readies his attacker or attackers. if you evade with a character that character is automatically recovered during the recovery phase, this is in addition to the character you choose to recover. hope that clears evasion up for you all

Dr. Strange, I wouldn't have recognized you as your visage isn't familiar, instead you resemble a large and imposing Sentinel. May I say your new look is an improvement as that cape was a little fruity looking and what with you living in Greenwich Village and sharing a domicile with your bald manservant, people were starting to talk.
Not that there is anything wrong with that of course
oof! did the Human torch come on by, because this thread is Flamed on!
To everyone who helped clarify the ruling on a big thank you.
To Samiurai: I agree. But, hey, gotta save the best for last, right? ;)
Doc. Strange is one of the reasons that spiderman is the closest things on level with batman. He has Strange on speed dial to get him anything he may need (not to mention Reed Ritchards)
Web: Hey, listen, i dont expect you do understand the reason I dress this way. Its ABOVE you. As for the bald little man, it comes standard with your normal Grand Sorcerer package.
Jro: I'm going to ignore that simply because thats absolutly false.
Zap: You are intitaled to your opinions. However, let me expain in detail, why i think this card is good.
Supposing that the WOS set has enough good sinster syndicate mebers to make a good deck or can at least team up well with someone else. Heres WHY this card will at least make an APPERANCE on the torny scene:
The card, for a low cost of tapping a SS memeber, lets you call a plot twist and lets you search through your deck for it. The down side is, that you lose a life point for each card you flip over that isnt the card.
Now this is why its good. If your going to lose, and only one card can get you out of that jam, then wouldnt it really be WORTH the risk even if you lose a load of life? A chance to win is better than no chance at all.
also, you start with 50 life. not 20 as in magic, 50. you can take a few points of endurance loss if you need it.
The most imporant point is that this card is excellent, IF YOU USE IT PROPERLY. The card is a punch in your face if theres only one copy of the card your looking for, you shouldn't run the risk of it being on the bottem. if you have three coppies in your deck, or aybe even 2, then yhe hit should not be as nearly heavy as it seems.
Look. Everyone thought that TNB was a stupid plot twist at first. Then, it started to run the metagame, when USED PROPERLY.the damage isn't something you need to worry about if you know how to play the game. if your not a huge stratagist, then play a beatdown deck, like TNB, but then again, infact for everydeck, you still need to think stratigicly. this card requires careful use, but the big facter is that when its used correctly, it can win games.
