Hello everyone,
I just wanted to gather some opinions on how competetive mostly DC decks can be/ are against mostly Marvel decks. From what I have seen, DC isn't able to go toe to toe with the tried and true Marvel decks. I am not at all saying that DC is a weaker set than Marvel (though I am admitting it as a possibility), maybe it is the metagame still developing. What are your thoughts?
DC decks aren't that bad... but Marvel (with Web of Spiderman coming) will sure have an advantage in the sheer # of cards available to their teams. 160 in DC to Marvel's 220+160.
I think the game designers in making DC wanted to start having people thinking more outside the box. DC involved alot more obscure combos and strategy very different to marvel. In doing this they focussed mainly on plot twists and team effects and not so much on individual characters and stats.
I think all in all the biggest mistake made in DC was simply lack of good stats on a majority of characters. In Marvel you had cards like Heavy hitter, ferral rage and the versions of wolverine. Those are all generally good stand alone cards in the Marvel set. So even if you dont pull out a combo they can still hold their own.
I guess simply put you could say marvel really gave you an assortment of strong characters and dc gave you an assortment of good effects. But when character effects rely on certain plot twists or locations, you find that if you dont draw correctly the overpowerness of marvel will just simply beat you down.

ya but they didnt do near as good as marvel teams did. plus where were league and inmates at? oh thats because they are completely terrible =(. at least xmen gets splashed in mutant nation. and gotham is only getting represented with a splash and gcpd. thats not a good showing of dc in my opinion.

I will give it to you that the decks are being played. I said nothing about how the set is being played. But, look at the Top 8 from both the PC and the 10 Champs at the PC. Out of 16 decks only 3 were predominantely DC!
Also, as a disclaimer, I know that there is one statistical hole in my arguement. Top 8 might not be the most accurate analysis point since making the cut was decided using a limited format.
I think that the reason the DC teams aren't well represented yet is the same reason why the Brotherhood ruled for so long... some teams are just easier to optimize than others. Since I started in DC, I learned to play based on the strategies there, and that's made it easier for me to help with making more unorthodox Marvel decks that seem to work really well too.
I suspect that My Beloved and X-Men (or X-Titans) are the two sleeper decks that we'll see suprise the metagame in the near future, excluding fun stuff with the Spider-Friends or the Syndicate.

I think there was 2 DC decks in the Day 1 top 8... and more Marvel decks were played because dc was still a bit new at that time... no?
anyway, some DC decks are bad right now, but there are some competitive stuff too. maybe if it was an all constructed tournament, we would se less common ennemy and more dc.
