Ok just looking for a little clarification ... with Latverian Embassy If my opponent has say a Savage beatdown that they just revealed in thier resource row ... then if they play say two more I can then reveal Lat Emb to negate them from being played at any point in time I want correct?
I am curious about this because of the way Lost City works ... no matter when the characters were powered up during the turn if lost city is flipped then they become +3/+3 replacements.
Since Lat Emb is a continious effect similar to Lost City I figureded it would be the same.
That doesn't make any sense ... how does the rule apply to one card but not similarly to another. If you could give examples as to why it is that would be most appreciated.
For Lost City, the order of events will go like this:
1) Power-up
2) Flip Lost City
3) Opponent Kabooms!
When the power-up is finally resolved, lost city is not in-play so he wont get the +3 +3 effect. Note that he can still power-up in response to the kaboom and gains +3+3 for each power-up before the kaboom is resolved.
For your example, the order of events:
1) Opponent plays Savage Beatdown from resource row
2) Opponent plays Savage Beatdown
3) Oppponent plays Savage Beatdown
4) You flip Latverian Embassy
It doesnt matter anymore by the time you flip LE, because he already played the card, the effect is on the chain and it is independent of the source.
If you wanted to stop the beatdowns, you should flip Latverian Embassy after he passes priority to you (after the first beatdown).
ps: No idea why I gave the kaboom example...makes no relevance to this thread...must be the early morning cheese..
I understand your lost city example ... the thing is from my understanding flipping a location does not require you to have priority. Also Continuous powers ignore the chain. Therefore you can flip a location at any point in time and the effect is automatically in effect. So...
Opponent flips savage beatdown from resource
opponent plays savage beatdown
"in response" I flip Lat Emb.
I say in response because say as soon as he played the first one from resource I wanted to flip my location but he was quicker then me "playing" the second one before I could interupt him. Then he has played the SB and the effect is automatically put on the chain?? That doesn't seem right to me.

Joey
When he played his first beatdown, he has to pass priority to you. If you do not pass it back to him, he cannot play the second beatdown.
Ok ... so you do have to have priority to flip locations .... that answers it right there there is no way to interupt my opponent from playing multiples.
Yes, you have to have priority to flip locations. Just that after you flip a location, the priority remains with you. And the effect generated by locations such as Lost City and Latverian Embassy are continuous effects that are active as soon as the location is flipped up.
You can flip your Latverian Embassy after he plays the first Beatdown. If his first Beatdown is played from the resource row, then he cannot play another copy of beatdown.

Sorry... this is not correct.
Whenever a player plays an effect, he has priority and may play more effects.
There is no response in VS, the other player has to wait for him to pass priority before he can flip Latverian Embassy.
Latverian Emb only stops your opponent from PLAYING the card, not from using it's effects
since he already "played" ie flipped the card before Latverian Emb was in play you can't retroactivly stop him from playing it.
if Latverian Emb said something like "Each of your opponents may not use the effect of a plot twist with the same name as a plot twist in his resource row."
then you would be correct
What if your opponent plays the first Savage Beatdown from his resource row, then passes priority to you. You then flips up Latverian Embassy, when you pass the priority back to him, can he chain with his other Savage Beatdowns?

No, not in this case. As soon as LE is flipped up, the ongoing power is active and PTs with the same name as any PTs in the resource row may not be played.
