During my attack step, my opponent plays Tower of Babel. I chain with Hordes of Apokolips. Do I get the +2 attack applied for that turn before Tower goes into effect, or does it's effect negate the attack boost completely?
My reasoning is that I have to be able to target a Darkseid's Elite character when playing the card. So, the effect is applied before Tower's effect. Thus I get the bonus since they were still Darkseid's Elite just before Tower of Babel's effect came in.
Am I right, or do they still have to be Darkseid's Elite when I attack to keep the bonus?
Actually, it came up online with Daryl last night.
It says "target Darkseid characters". I can target before Tower goes into effect, and thus the bonus applies before Tower takes effect. They were Darkseid at the time Horde's effect applies on the chain, so the bonus goes to them, does it not? I don't see how it can be removed after the effect is complete.
The problem I'm having is that Hordes applies all turn, so I can give them the bonus at any time. As I understand it, if I can apply the effect before Tower, the effect stays. It's just like a Fizzle - it does you no good to use it after my effect has completed on the chain.
Hordes of Apokolips
Plot Twist, 1
Up to three target Darkseid's Elite characters you control each get +2 ATK while attacking this turn.
As long as they are Darkseid's Elite when the effect is annouced and when it is resolved, they will get the bonus. It does not mater if a latter effect removes their team affiliation as long as Hordes of Apokolips has already resolved.
That wouldn't seem to make sense, since they do not have the attacker characteristic at the beginning of the combat phase (which was when the cards were played). Once they gain the attacker characteristic, then Babel would kick in (because it says "during each attack step"), nullifying any atk bonus based strictly on affiliation. Flying Kick and Mega Blast would be examples of a turn length bonus that has nothing to do with affiliation.
What Chad is saying is that as long as the targets have the DE affiliation when the PT is announced and when the PT resolves, they will get the +2 ATK when attacking.
If you are playing against LOA, you should play this during the build phase.
Basically, You play Hordes and later they use Tower of Babel your guys will still get +2, because when the Plot Twist was played and when it resolved they where still Darkseid...
Now, if you played it during your attack phase and they chained Tower of Babel to it, then, going by chain rules, Tower resolves first and they dont have team affiliation, now Hordes looks for targets and finds none, it's effect fizz-err, "disappears".
