Based on what I have heard, once both players pass priority, all effects on the chain are resolved, with no one getting priority. This means you can't play cards during resolution right?
Based on that, if I use a Mystical Paralysis, how can they chain to cover fire with alfred taking a fizzle, then fizzle my Cover Fire?
This is a scenario that relates. Player A has Dr. Doom 6 Drop in play. Player B has Alfred and Azrael. Player A plays Mystical Paralysis targeteing Azrael. Player B chains with Alfred. Now, the chain resolves, since Alfred resolves, right?
Alfred takes Fizzle
Paralysis exhausts Azrael.
Is there some period of time between those effects resolving where he can play fizzle?
after each effect is resolved, both players have a chance to play more effects before you resolve the next effect. So alfred get fizzle. both players have a chance to play more effects before mystical resolves. he fizzles it so that when it does resolve...well it doesn't.
Basically, after an effect resolves and creates a modifier, the primary player gets priority again. At that point, more effects can be added to the chain before mystical paralysis (your example) resolves.
Narrow Escape reads "Exhaust Target defender you control, if you do that character gets +2 DEF this attack." So If I fizzle Narrow Escape does their character still exhaust? They don't choose whether to exhaust for the condition until the effect resolves, right?
Narrow Escape's exhaustion is part of the effect it is not a cost. So if you Fizzle Narrow Escape the character you were targeting with Narrow Escape does not exhaust.
Player A plays Mystical Paralysis, exhausting his Dr. Doom.
Player B chains to Alfred's effect, sending it back to his hand.
The chain ends.
Alfred's effect resolves, and get's Fizzle.
Alfred's effect goes on the chain.
Player A passes.
Player B chains Fizzle to Mystical Paralysis.
Even though it looked like the chain ended, it really didn't. I'm not sure if I worded it correctly, i'm sure someone smarter will post here soon~
*Player A plays Mystical Paralysis, exhausts Doom, and passes priority.
*Player B uses alfred and passes priority back. Both players pass on an empty chain, and alfred's effect resolves.
*Player B grabs a fizzle from deck
*Primary player gets priority again (Player A), and passes on an empty chain. (Mystical Paralysis is still waiting to resolve)
*Player B uses fizzle and negates Mystical Paralysis.
