would his ability work in conjunction with xavier's dream since they both happen at the beginning of the recovery phase. I mean, if he's stunned, can you KO him and then add a dream counter?

Xavier's Dream is a conditional trigger, which means if there are any stunned characters at the start of the recovery phase, it won't even trigger. You have to enter into the recovery phase with no stunned characters.
