I am having problems countering the likes of Gorilla stealing my Katar Hol. I know The Atom is the answer but he is not my mulligan condition and even if he is, I may not get him. Any OTHER clues to solving this problem?
At the SoCal 10K (JLA Sealed/Draft), I personally witnessed (or overheard down the table) Grodd countered in the following ways:
Ray Palmer <> The Atom (once)
Die For Darksied (many times)
Henry King <> Brainwave (once)
Funeral for a Friend (once)
Sinister Citadel (3-4 times)
Dueling Grodds (many times)
Crystal Frost Lockdown (once)
Hal Jordan (2-3 times)
Whenever the effect is negated, it's game over for the Grodd player...
Sure, it's a bomb when it works, but now that people are ready for it, Grodd players are going to be losing games right and left that they otherwise might have won fair and square.
Never use your Die for Darksied before turn 6, unless you're going for the win turn 5.

Ah, but the intelligent ones will be knowing when to KO and when to wait.
I think he meant the mirror match. Grodd is the most exciting card in the most exciting set yet. Such a thrill in Sealed and Draft, who knows how strong it can be in Constructed. Go monkey!

It still won't help them. You might be in a position where you can't win unless you Grodd their 6-drop and you have no way of knowing whether or not there's a face down Die For Darkseid.
I think the question is this: Is Grodd so good that he needs to be hated in Draft? The last two 10Ks should give us some outstanding data, and Metagame has done a bang-up job covering them.
The most fun thing to do in JLA is to KO your 7 with your Grodd to steal your opponent's Grodd and then KO your Grodd to steal their 5, leaving you with 5/6 and them with 7.
