I went to one in Toronto. There were about 26 players there in total. This was my first PCQ so I can't comment about how it compared to the double format. I find that players dropping out is so detrimental to the rating system, and I can't imagine the double PCQ system made that any easier.
I ought not to complain too loudly, as I finished well enough (4-3) to get amateur prizes.
Yeah, I'm soooo going to have 4 Mockingbird by the end of this season, seeing as i'm obsseded with EA's. Anyways, i like it, gives more to the players, except not for me today
We only got 26, as somebody noted, but that's only slightly below average around here for sealed PCQs.
The Lex Luthor <> Mockingbird participation EA is - well, it's good enough. Not quite ideal - I think for PCQs, the participation EA should be an uncommon that sees wide play, like the JSA Phantom Stranger, for example, or Ahmed Samsarra. But Luthor's okay, and the EA looks good.
The Fatality prize EA, on the other hand, is just about perfect. I think the seriously awesome rare EAs should be saved for Hobby League (multiple Leagues at a single venue means multiple opportunities to get a playset of EA Blinding Rage, for example - if UDE hadn't made the DCR Hobby League kits so terrible, anyway) and PCQ prize EAs should be this: powerful playable rares that are one-or-two-ofs.
The single formats are good, 41 players in cali, good turnout, the EA mockingbird was ok, I just gave it to my friend though since I don't care for ea's anymore, I kept the EA Fatality though, top 8ing was koo, going 2-0, then loosing, and then winning the rest, got rocked by ZONOS in quarterfinals, all good and fun though, now I need to top 8 on the 30th so I can maybe get my last 5 point, hopefully.
Went to a constructed PCQ in San Jose today and it was pretty good. 20 players, so everyone got Mockingbird...
Though the best part was making Top 8 with a deck I'd never played before today. :p Checkmate/Villains FTW or whatever. The Fatality is pretty sweet and I needed the point to be ready for LA so it was good times. Infestation for 40+ in the quarters _twice_ is a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch though. It wasn't Ahmed loss though! That was a moral victory I think. I never lost a game cause Ahmed was KO'd. Lost one or two cause he wasn't in PLAY... But that's another story... lol
I do miss the sealed before constructed, but I guess I can live with this.
