The card reads: Ongoing: Ko a non-army character you control >>> characters you recruit this turn with the same name as that character enter play with two +1/+1 counters.
my question is: when does the cards check for the character's version, before or after you KO it?
I want to know if I can KO a "knighted" Aspiring Pawn and then recruit a new one with +2/+2 counters.
No you are alright. The cost KO non-army checks only when being played at which time he is a non-army, he gets KO'd and the card could care less from that point on.
... if you manage to "knight" more than one pawn ... you could use the effect more than once per turn, right?
Yup. Golden Age idea... get three Knighted. KO them. Grab them back (Recon Program?). Play them and maybe a new one. Have 4 4-drops with mistaken costs. lol
I dunno, seems a little silly with Kang. The best part about Kang is that he's not unique, thus not needing to put them in your KO'd pile when you recruit another one. KO'ing them to an effect to boost your next recruit seems a little contrary.
