Ok. The funny thing is that when I open Yu-Gi-Oh packets I get nothing. Nada. Zip. Sweet FA. But apparently my shop owner thinks I've got the sweet touch on VS packets (he handed me a MUN pack the other day and I pulled out a Stark Armoury - he needed one more!) He hates it when I open packs in the store and go "hmmm, Hulk Smash? Is that any good" or "Uncertain Legacy? Is that one of the money rares?"

So we got in MEV and these are the rares I pulled out...have I got a lucky touch?

Sadly I didn't get much Purifers love (1 sodding Purifier) apart from nearly a complete playset of Lady Deathstrike (one shiny ooooooh). But funnily enough the first three packs I opened yielded me a Panoptchron, A Finer World and In Ze Munich Circus...

I opened a couple of the Shop owners for him and got him a shiny Starjammer, 7-drop Blink and a Xavin, Super Skrull...which he then promptly traded me for X-Gene Decoded.

All in all, a nice day (and we all had ice-cream!)

So tell me...do I have the sweet touch?

In two packs at the Legionaire Pre-release, I pulled out the Easter Egg Saturn Girl in the first pack, and a Mobilize in the other. Yeah, I think I might have that touch, too.

I bought about 24 packs of DC Legends and hit 3 Batman, Founding Members.

Out of 2 boxes of MUN, I hit 2 SHRA, 2 Uncertain Legacies, 2 Trouble With Dinosaurs, 2 Hulk Smash!, 2 I'm a Futurist! and a host of other groovy rares...plus the rubbish ones.

Notice I do not get the same luck in Yugioh where I could make a small fortune <sigh>

My fourth graders have been buying packs at the local shop and trading them at school with no intent on playing them.

Out of five packs, they got those two rares.

Now the part that will make everyone scream. Make sure you don't have a mouthful of coffee.

I am not allowed to trade with them, and by the time I saw them they were well-loved with fuzzy corners and creases.

Good times.

Can't you just find some way to confiscate their cards, then slip in some crummy rares to replace the good ones?

I've had some luck myself.

I was looking for more copies of Batman, Founding Member and one pack in my last box had a foil one to go along with the non foil version in the same pack :).

At Origins, I was looking to finish off my MUN collection after getting a case. As anyone that went to the events knows, it seems that the boxes that were brought for prizes and for sealed events were boxes where the rares seemed to be packed so that most rares within a box would be duplicated (i.e. you'd get about 12 different rares twice instead of 24 different rares like in a normal box). The boxes my friend got for winning one of the events basically got use duplicates of every rare that I had only 2 copies of, filling out the playsets for stuff like SHRA and things like that.

The luckiest I've ever been though was with the Gallery Packs. Ottawa area had what I can guess is a case that was mispacked. Instead of randomly appearing in a common slot, the ultra rares were showing up in the rare slot, and were showing up at a high frequency, about half the packs had them. My friend and I got close to playsets of the ultra rares, and when I got home for Xmas, my parents had gotten me a box as a present, which happened to follow the same pattern. On top of that, I ended up pulling cards out of the Marvel Gallery packs that were never listed as being part of them. An EA Boris, and an EA Colossus, both from MOR.

I don't know if it's luck, but the first sealed I played with DC Legends ... I pulled a copy of Mirror Image. The first Marvel Universe sealed event I played, I pulled a copy of Frog of Thunder, and in the first sealed I played with Marvel Evolution, my friend pulled a copy of The World, so I end up with the card I preview as one of the first cards I end up with each set.

My luck has been average, and when it swings one way for one set, it eventually swings all the way back. Case in point:

1 case of MXM = 7 Enemy of my Enemy - 1 foil
1 case DLS = 2 Mobilize

4 boxes of DSL = 4 Mobilizes but not one Created from Hate
2 boxes of MVL = 2 Berserker Rages and a bunch of reprints
1 boxes of DCL = Super Metro Marvel + Bats Founding Member + bunch of reprints

I don't know if thats good luck or bad luck but I tend to get much more good quality rares when I draft.
