Are these crystal dragon decks any competitive? I was contemplating making one, but it looked like they couldn't really hang with the big boys.

To be honest crystal beast decks of any kind have never really been good in high-level competition (ie Nats, SJC, Worlds, etc.) They had a bad release, and they've gotten very little support. Plus, they're just really really small hence they die easily and you get your face smashed as a result. One of two things has to happen for them to be contenders. One, they need a huge boost(a synchro monster that gets a crystal abundance-like effect when it's summoned would be nice. Wait maybe thats a little too broken) or we need a control or beatdown format so slow that snails would win races against the top decks then they'd be fast enough to do some damage.

Having said that they are fast, versatile, and fun as hell to play. They've got everything you want in a deck except a winning percentage.
