I'm trying to build a team with R Inv Girl and want to make sure I understand Defend properly

Let's say I pair up IG with SuperSkrull. SS has a 16 Defense and Invulerability. IG has an 18 Defense. Does SS now have an 18 Defense with Invulnerability?

Now I pair her up with Human Torch. Torch has a 15 Defense with Energy Shield Deflection. Does Torch now have an 18 Defense with Energy Shield Deflection?

If the SuperSkrull is adjacent to Invisible Girl, yes, he would get her 18 defense as well as keeping his invulnerability.

Yep. A whopping 20 defense against ranged attacks. Put Torch in hindering terrain and he gets 21 vs ranged attacks.

Confused by the second part of this answer...not saying it's wrong, I just need a claification. I thought that if torch wanted to use his energy shield he'd have to drop down to his original defense value because the Defend power states that it's the unmodified value that gets shared. I have some teams to modify if what you stated above is correct.

It's Invisible Girl's unmodified value that is shared. So she can not share a hindering terrain bonus or a perplexed defense value. Once the Torch borrows her defense he can use his own energy shield to increase it as well as getting a hindering bonus if he himself is in hindering terrain.
