Question on X-Men Animated Series Dark Phoenix colossal retaliation power:
COLOSSAL RETALIATION: CHILD OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS: FREE: If no friendly character has been placed this turn, choose an opposing character that attacked Dark Phoenix or damaged a friendly character since your last turn. Place Dark Phoenix such that she can make a close attack targeting the chosen character then do so also targeting all other characters (friendly or opposing) within 3 squares. Hit characters are given an action token and each dealt 2 penetrating damage instead of normal damage.

So when it says FREE, does that mean it doesn't count towards your total actions you can take for your turn, and/or it doesn't count towards giving her a token and she can take another action that same turn and only get the one token?

Yep, that’s how a free action works. It’s like using perplex. That’s the reason a lot of people hate colossal retaliation. Though most aren’t as potent as Dark Phoenix’s.

DP is strong because unlike most retailtors it doesn't have COLOSSAL INDIFFERENCE, so she can attack non-colossal characrters with non-retaliation attack.
Add to that the fact that she heal when deal 4 damage or KO a character, and she can heal beyond her starting click, and a very strong potential for 30 points.
