Split replacement character scoring in multiplayer games
Someone asked a question about victory points and replacement characters, so I took a look at the relevant rules (quoted below) and noticed a different issue:
Quote
From the Core Rulebook, p. 32:
Victory Points: When one or more characters replace a character, and all of that character’s replacement characters are KO’d, score victory points equal to the point value of the replaced character, unless the total point value of the KO’d replacement character(s) is higher.

Character A is 50 points. It is replaced by character B that is 45 points. If B is KO’d, 50 victory points are scored because A had the higher point value.

Character A is 50 points. It is replaced by characters B and C that are 30 points each. If both B and C are KO’d, 60 victory points are scored. If only character B is KO’d, only 30 victory points are scored since both replacement characters were not KO’d.
My question comes comes from the ever overlooked multiplayer games (battle royales with 3 or more players):
If character A of 100 points is replaced by characters B and C of 40 points each, what happens if two different players KO B and C?
I have a few ideas:
Does the first player score 40, and the second player score the remaining 60?
Does the first player score 40 initially, and then an extra 10 once the second character is KO’d, so each player ends up with 50?
Do both players get 40, since neither player KO’d all the replacement characters? In this last case, are the remaining 20 points lost, or are they distributed evenly among all undefeated, opposing players at the end of the game, like unclaimed points usually are?
My guess would be “3.”, with the 20 points being distributed. What are your thoughts?
This also seems relevant:

From the Comprehensive Rulebook Supplement, p. 15:
PART 20: MULTIPLAYER GAMES
...
When a game element is KO’d, the player whose turn it is scores it unless it’s a game element from their force or Sideline. In that case, if it’s a character that was damaged by an opposing character, the player (including a defeated player) whose character most recently damaged it scores it. Otherwise, you divide its victory points equally among all undefeated players at the end of the game.
