I was reading the heroclix "Universe" Rule book, when I came across this section:
CLOSE COMBAT:
"A close combat action represents up-close, hand-to-hand fighting. Your character has to be in a square next to an opposing character (this is called being adjacent) to make a close combat attack.
Note that flying and nonflying characters can't make close combat attacks against each other. They're too far away."
Wha-wha-what? You got to be kidding me! Please, someone tell me that last line is just oddly worded and I'm not understanding this. If that's the case, that means any grounded charge figure couldn't close-combat a flying character. And vice versa!
Well, just to be clearer, I'm hoping what they mean is that soaring figures and non-soaring figures cannot perform close combat actions on one another.
These are the quick start rules, not the tournament-style rules that follow a few pages later.
I found it to needlessly complicate matters to make this distinction between the two sets of rules. I'm just starting to get down the two sets of Galactus rules
That is an absurd wording, quick-start rules or not. They have also completely re-rewritten adjacency and movement too! (according to those rules, fliers don't get to pass by opposing figures.)
Does anyone at the company even proof-read these things?
It is bad enough that a "casual" player has to keep up-to-date with multiple "FAQs", but quick start rules that have different mechanics than the actual rules is just wrong.
I just registered to post in this forum because, after useing the search forum feature here, I never was able to find the answer to the question of close combat between hovering and grounded characters.
Can the flying Wonderman figure engage grounded figures in close combat, or is he only allowed to attack other flying characters?

If Wonderman is hovering he can attack other hovering characters and non-flying characters in close combat.
If he is soearing he can only attack soaring.
All warfare is based on deception. Hence when able to attack we must seem unable. When we are near we must make the enemy believe we are far away when far away we must make him believe we are near. Feign disorder, and crush him. Sun Tzu
