FightsWithFriends: 400 pt theme team switcheroo
* this game was vs. the NewtonFink*
I lost last game and last game's loser decides next game's format. somewhere I had stumbled across this idea on the realms for a venue's tournament and I changed it a little and added my own flavor:
build 2 400 pt teams
*we decided that who got the ata's was owner's choice, if there was a choice
sounded like fun, plus we've been playing big games and I wanted to try some smaller, more competitive ones. we've had fun pulling out our big guns recently (my Horsemen of Apocalypse got their rears handed to them by NewtonFink's Thanos and Terrax in a 1200 pt) and now I wanted to shift to the other side of the spectrum and see what we could come up with having to squeeze lower points in.
here are my teams:
"Sneaky" Avengers
CA030 Falcon
221 IM3010 Iron Man Mk 15
90 CW203 Captain America
5 Secret Avengers ata
5 Secret Avengers ata

55 ASM013A Frank Drake
133 ASM028 Morbius

85 ASM004 Blade

his teams:

a roll of the die determined that we would be playing one of our own teams for the first match. he chose his monsters and I chose my monster-slayers.
my map choice was the Gotham City Waterfront.
this is by far my favorite map as of late. big shout-out to Dave the judge at Chatauqua Comics for hooking me up with a copy of it cuz I LOVE how it looks post-quake. IMO the best of the No Man's Land maps so far. unfortunately we never got hit by the earthquake... perhaps another day.
our battle ended up being right next to the red shipping container in the middle of the map near the waterfront. all of his characters ended up pouncing right on my Frank Drake who was trying to get into position atop one of the shipping containers. with most of my other guys out of range or just outside of charging/RS distance, Frank was left on his own for a turn. when his partners finally showed up, Frank was found with 2 punctures in his neck and a super-buff Morbius standing over him with a 'wadup?' grin plastered on his face. fortunately, my own Morbius' outwits, Hannibal's outwit and Blade's... well, blade ensured vengeance was exacted by the Midnight Sons.
2nd match
I had just acquired Falcon in a trade and new IM3 stealth suit Iron Man from a gf and I was itchy to field them both. 'sneaky' just looks so brutal for the unaware and Cap and Falcon looked like a nice combo to back up his assault. I laid out a general idea of what my plan had been with these 3 for the fink, as he did for me with his Guardians. I've never read much of any of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and pretty much nothing since the 90's, but I was intrigued with the Adam Warlock/Magus switching ability. I love playing with different character swapping mechanics (battlefield promotion, ae's, traited swaps), but I rarely have much luck with them. either way, I was excited to play a theme team of all figures I don't own and it seemed that the Fink was pretty pumped for new Iron Man and all of his "I-see-you-but-you-don't-see-me" hijinks. due to a case of mild inebriation (one tends suffer such hindrances when hanging-out late night with friends), I never thought to throw in a feat or perhaps a 3-D object such as the Octo-arms or Iron Man's briefcase (that could've proved thematically interesting) to round out the other 13 pts that the Fink hadn't used while constructing this team, but alas, hindsight is 20/20. the team was well assembled anyways.
the Fink's map choice was the Gotham City Clock Tower
this proved to be one of THE most entertaining matches I've played in a long time. again, we pretty much met-up in the middle of the map near E-13. with Nikki's RS and poison, Hollywood's charge/comfy damage reducers and all the attacking possibilities Warlock and his evil split-personality had to offer I figured I might as well send the troops right in and try to gain the upper-hand fast. the battle escalated pretty evenly until he had his whole team positioned nicely pinning Warlock and Hollywood against the wall near D-11. iron man rolled doubles once, cap hit crits. even with Hollywood being 'Almost Immortal', it wasn't enough to keep him afloat very much longer. Nikki poisoned falcon for a bit and Adam changed to Magus, I think eventually took down cap, but it really came down to this one final showdown between 'Sneaky' and Warlock:
Warlock on his 3rd to last with prob and pulse wave
Iron Man mk 15 on his last click with penetrating/psychic blast, and 3 damage.... with one action token on him.
that's right... self-destruct unibeam
good game, good game.
until we meet again...

build 2 400 pt teams
- both must be theme teams
- ata's and feats allowed *
- no resources
- one team you will be playing with, the other against
- order will be random
*we decided that who got the ata's was owner's choice, if there was a choice
