Muir for your Money

As mentioned in my previous post, I'd post more about Krista Muir later. It seems the future is now.
Krista initially started making a name for herself under the pseudonym Lederhosen Lucil. Ja! Donning a blonde Heidi wig and a quasi-German accent, she'd get up on stage with a Yamaha synthesizer and play catchy little tunes that would often undermine the comedic or twisted lyrics of the songs in a style she called 'hosemusik.'
The rhyming gymnastics she likes to play with are incredible...
On top of that, being French-Canadian, she doesn't shy away from turning a phrase in French as shown in the chorus...
And as you can tell from that last line, the cute little lullaby of a song is about making poison cookies.
Most of her songs are more frenetic, like the stream of consciousness song All Good Scabs.
Other songs include Automatic Weapons of the World, and Best Dishwasher I Ever Had.
In 2008 Krista tested the waters by releasing Leave Alight as "Krista L.L. Muir."
While the blatant silliness of Lucil is gone, there's still some dark, almost Lucil-like playfulness to be had, such as one of the tracks about escaping drug addiction, Drugging the Drain. Through all the songs her ability to play with words and construct simple, catchy tunes is still at the front.
With the reception Leave Alight received, she finally did two proper releases under her own name, dropping the "L.L." Accidental Railway replays a number of songs from Leave Alight, but brings some new ones as well, including the moving, Concrete Love Song.
While I can't say that Between Atoms, the release after, is my favorite of her albums, a couple of the tracks have found their way into great remixes.
Here's the original title track Between Atoms...
And the Le Pierre Crube remix...
Unfortunately, I can't find good samples of the one released this week, Slept Through A Landslide, which features Krista's Tired Angels.
Also this week was the release of Guten Tag, Gemini! The new album features both Krista and Lucil. Lucil hasn't lost a step, opening the album with a song about bike safety and playing chicken in Chicken On Clark.
Each have several tracks of their own but also share credit on Skate For Their Lives and Sports Are Great.
By the way, the first time I ever heard Lederhosen Lucil, she was opening for The Aquabats! Another group that's worth mentioning in a later post.
