Ohoni FAQ

I get asked certan things very often, so I thought I'd just take the time to answer as many of them as I could here, so I could stop wasting people's time with them in other threads:
Challenge: It would help to remember that your opinion is no more or less valid than anyone else's. And that opinions on a highly subjective matter are just that.
Response: True. My opinion is my own, and carries no more weight than that. However, when I'm right, I'm right.
Challenge: You speak for nobody other than yourself. Stop using words like "we".
Response: Partially true. I don't speak for anyone other than myself. If, however, even one person agrees with my position, then that constitutes a position that can be classified with a "we", a group consisting of myself and those who agree with the position. I would never use the term "we" unless there were already people who had expressed that they agreed with the point I was making. Likewise, if I say "many people agree with me on this point", then it is because many people HAVE agreed with the point on that, or some other thread. I think it's unnecessary for them to have to chime in to every single thread to say so right then and there, they'd already registered their opinion on the matter.
Challenge: You're too negative.
Response: I am negative. Whether I'm TOO negative or not is subjective. I'm actually NOT "negative" in the sense that I always look at things from the bad side, I'm a fairly happy person. Negativity would be if I were to say "this sucks, that sucks, everything sucks, and there's no hope for it". I do not do that. What some take to be "negativity" is actually better described as constructive criticism.
I typically discuss things that are not working right, in the hopes that they will be made to work right. I rarely note the things that are working right, because what would that accomplish? Plus, when I do post something positive, it's frequently not noted, while if I do post something negative, certain individuals jump on me like rabid monkeys, which tends to lead to pages of discussion, which inflates the volume of "negativity". The number of initially negative posts I've made is not actually much higher than the volume of initially positive posts I've made, the negative ones just tend to take up more spece because they are more vigorously debated, which leads them to stick more firmly in people's minds.
Challenge: Why do you remove people's names when you quote them?
Response: I do not. I just don't add them. I tend to quote a lot of people, and in the interest of space saving I don't open a new thread for each response, so I've gotten in the habit of selecting the portion I wish to address, hitting "ctrl-C", then typing into my response "
ctrl-V
". Now, I could type in the person's name, but to be prefectly honest, I'm a bit too lazy for that. Sorry if that offends anyone, it's not my intent to do so.
Let me know if there are any more frequent "ohoni attacks" that I should address here. I will add more if I come across them.
