As much as the speed force is a gigantic catch all plot device, the alternative, as you point out, is a Flash that can't see where he's going or punch people. So what's the problem?
While we're calling PIS on the idea of the speed force, why don't we complain that gamma bombs don't really give you super strength?

They don't? What the hell am I going to school for?!? ::flips desk::
The "New 52" Flash is cheaper... but this one has the 18 defense I want on a Flash figure. Plus, for some reason I'm never able to open any Rare or Super Rare Flashes, it's like a curse... this one is just an uncommon, so hopefully I'll get him.
Wally > Barry, A whole generation grew up with Wally. Barry should have stayed dead, comic book deaths are so cheap now-a-days. Who cares if Johns likes Barry.
and an earlier generation grew up with Barry as the flash. hell Barry is in my opinion the second most important character in Superhero comics. Superman started the Superhero genre but it was all but dead by the 1950's, the introduction of Barry as the Flash Revived the genre.
What's more ridiculous is someone who moves at the speed of light or faster than the speed of light to even see where he's going. Let alone dodge explosive shrapnel or rocks when moving so fast. At that speed he should be break all his bones punching anything. Speed Force is PIS.
- Genetic Mutations cannot cause someone to create and destroy matter willy nilly (Ala Colossus)
- different light spectrums (AKA suns) do not seem to grant vast supercosmic powers (ala Superman). Actually all super powerful aliens are preposterous. While evolving on a heavy gravity planet would likely make one stronger, it would also almost certainly mean evolving under much greater atmospheric pressure. the moment they landed on earth they'd probably explode - much like humans would in outer space after a few minutes.
- On time travel: assume it is possible, now realize that the earth is rotating at 1600 Km/hr, the earth is travelling around the sun at 108,000 Km/hr, our solar system is cruising around our galaxy at around 220 Km/Sec, our galaxy is travelling much faster than that, our local cluster even faster, and then there is our expansion into space due to dark energy. travelling even one second in time is probably equivalent to travelling over a million Km in space along at least 6 centers of rotation and any minor singularity along any of those rotations (which encompass the whole universe) will throw off the whole calculation. Even if time travel were somehow possible, calculating your destination would not be.
Iron River Read my wife's comic or I will say mean things about your dog.
I suckered these guys into playing: Feedback Damage

iF CHUCK NORRIS Wanted to time travel im sure he'd round house kick your whole physics speech and do it anyways. The speed force could be chuck norris granting wally uber crazy physics defying powers.
Me? I've got a different problem. I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard. Always taking constant care not to break something. To break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control, even for a moment, or someone could die. - superman JLU Destoyer

@Nightwing. Haha. People don't explode in a vacuum(so space). Sheldon would know better.
He'd also know that the classic FTL = time travel was little more than a thought experiment by theoretical physicists to explain a point in relative dynamics. It's no more real in practice than Shrodinger's Cat. To perform the thought experiment mathematically, you need to ignore principals upon which the supposition is based.
In special relativity, to accelerate mass to the speed of light, which is naturally massless, one requires infinite energy. Because special relativity depends on conservation of energy, there is no such thing as infinite in the EM band. Therefore mass cannot be accelerated past c in ANY model of relativity. It just can't. So if we were to permit FTL, special relativity doesn't apply. And if you throw out the book on relativity, you lose the math that leads to time travel.
There is no model, period, that says FTL = time travel because there is no model, period, that says FTL.
I'm a huge Flash fan, and have always been a Wally West man. It really boils down to who you grew up reading. To me Kyle Rayner is Gl and Wally is the Flash. I understand alot of older readers like their versions, but those of us who grew up in the 90's have our preferences too.
All that aside, this is a great flash. Most of the modern flashes are annoyance pieces, but this one can actually really threaten big guns giving you the power to drop them on that next click.
Not so sure about the sculpt tho. I call him the Flashtopus.
Hey calm down, I had the same problem but then I switched majors to genetics. Radioactive spiders here I come!
Good call. I'll switch mine to Nanoscience, and after I make my own Extremis armor we can meet up, lol.
Seriously though, great Flash, and I'm pretty excited too because the only modern age Wally before this wasn't great (and his sculpt was worse - he was moving so fast 'cuz of his roid rage). Incidentally, you can run 4 generations of Flash in modern age now, which is pretty cool. And split and merge with some good pieces in silver with the flashes.
@ Jackofhearts2005 - That was quite possibly the most perfect retort I have ever seen. Well done, my friend. As far as the great Wally vs Barry debate, the fact that a version of Wally now exists in any capacity is something to be celebrated. Bringing back Barry heinously cheapened his death and his honorable sacrifice that it was, and furthermore cheapened his extraordinarily important contribution to the Silver Age of comics, as wolfnet2000 pointed out. Wally honored the mantle of the Flash following Barry's passing. Wally deserves to be the Flash. He has earned that right and Barry should have stayed dead. Period. Dan Didio should be ashamed of himself. Instead of admitting their mistake, DC decided to bring back Barry in the New 52, but because they new he had become boring compared to Wally, they superimposed Wally's engaging and likeable personality onto him to make him more interesting. There is hope, however. And it is now in the form of an extremely playable and incredibly awesome Heroclix piece. The fact that a Wally West forum inspired such spirited conversation and an intriguing discussion on physics makes it all the sweeter. Could Didio be listening to the passion of Wally West fans? I can dream, right?
