We doubled our attendance and the Mockingbird ROCKS. I finished 9th at 4-3 and am now obsessed with Divinity.
Good show.
dam that sucks stu i didn`t notcie u ended up 9th i ended up 5th. had to give a win to friend after going 6-1. would have loved to actually play in the top 8. btw what was the name of that website for the play mats?
haven't been to a pcq yet but this saturday is a pcq in san diego and i will be there i really hope the turn out is better then the last few. But who am i to complain as long as we get a pcq to go to and dont have to drive far for it
man, IMo his new pcq format is 100% better than dual becuz todays pcq was very very fast and nice. The judges didnt have to worry about two forms of slips so im sure they were happy too.:)
And the new prizing structure (guaranteed amount of boosters and tins for the top 8) and amateur prizing is a great addition.
If your area is saturated with pros... the amateur prizes are easily attainable by even brand new players. If you haven't played in a PCQ in a while or at all... I really suggest going this season.
The new prize structure is great for SoCal. It's strictly more generous all around, including tins for everyone in T8. Not sure how it will impact areas without a dark matter congregation of point blackholes. (Seriously. I think all but one player in T8 was maxed out on PCQ-eligible points. I think #9 got one point he was eligible for.)
The single format will certainly help attendance in those events.
The day wasn't any shorter for the event staff. Sealed just takes a long time, especially with a lot of deck checks, which we were doing. (very few of the deck checked matches went to pre-extension time, which was very, very good. Goes to show that those players going to time are wasting time somewhere.)
Constructed will be a very short day, indeed.
The early sign-up prize is great. It will help get events started on time.

Yeah, every other person in top 8 had their points, Niles, Cabanero, Prosak, Billy, Calvin and Dustin all had their points, me and ryan were the only ones needing to win the pcq so we could have been q'd again for SoCal.
I'm not sure, I wasn't able to stick around. 3 of 4 in my group made top 8, but we all lost in the quarters so we headed out. It probably won though, I think it had two CM/VU matchups ahead of it.
BTW, when I got home I went to read your article (finally!) on the Indy deck and I was shocked to find out you aren't running The Mist! That guy is CRAZY good. The Mist and Death Trap destroyed me. Seriously, I probably would have won 2-0 instead of losing 0-2 if he wasn't running Mist and DT.

Awesome. I know how insane The Mist can be there, glad to hear it was running good. I guess his deck should be called Spray Paint!
Please get me the info on how the deck finished if you can. Thanks.

I heard that you scooped to galtwish in Round 8 to ensure him a shot at Top8 and his last point for SoCal. You're a good sport; doubly so if you still needed points.
And THAT top 8 was with 10k NY taking Vidi out of the mix.

I didn't even mention that I needed the win: Brandon is a true gentleman.
I really like the amateur prizing and the early bird special for those people who show up on time (unlike me). SoCal has so many top players that it can be really frustrating to go to PCQs when the Top 8 looks like the Top 50 of a PC: Niles, Cab, Prosak + 5 hungry players who are usually a tiebreak away from a breakout performance at the PCs.
I played two PC winners during swiss at my PCQ. (Horn and Calabrese)
Man Karl's deck was the nuts...
Karnak + Firelord + Nahrees (concealed 4 drop) = my 38 endurance being irrelevant on turn 6. I don't know what your supposed to do against that. He had Armageddon also somewhere in his deck.
I really liked the increased prize support. Mockingbird isn't a half bad EA either for just showing up.
