Oh god...the 90's threw up on Prime....er I mean I never cared for Prime's short lived "Bad Boy" phase.
I have to say PRIME Prime is one of the most unique designs I've seen and I think I love it!
....and I don't just say that because I have the uncanny ability pull the Uncommon Prime.
Not A Good Little Boy Anymore: An anti-rarity piece, I may learn to love that veiny and spike-belted sculpt after all!
Woof, I might have to call him the Prime hunter. With the recent run of Meta Chase and Unique figures he'd end up far and away more sought after than the "Ahem" common Uncommon Prime.
Prime's Got Some Partying To Do!: A big hit and a token to boot, Prime/Prime is meant to go out there and get stuck in. With Invincible to take that initial big hit and Steal Energy to keep him on the map ( not to mention plenty of excellent support available to Ultraforce ) its going to take a concentrated effort to put Prime/Prime down.
Man he's going to play particularly well with Pixx and a little TK.
I Am A Stud!.....not even as a teenager was I that vainglorious, that is the perfect flavor text to get across Prime's mindset when he decided to "Lead" Ultraforce.

Good old Bob, show those wiper-snappers how its done!
Ranger: Oh Bob is going to be a harder target to hit than an unwary opponent might first suspect. Which is a good thing considering his next special.
This Beam Carousel Is On An Independent Aiming System: Oh this is going to be popular....and make Bob a HUGE target on the field. Get those shots in while you can Bob!
Been In The Ultra Game Longer Than Anyone Except Maybe Hardcase: Now that's a good way to get his mentor status across on his dial. Bob's at his best when the rest of your team is at their worst!
I particularly like that "Out of his armor" last click, the suit does not make the man....but you should probably keep him from piecing together a replacement.
bob was great, but i liked him much better as ranger than prototype again. it was a shame they retconned away jimmy just to replace him with bob, they were both at their best together. i really, really liked their big brother dynamic, including the in-fighting.
they at least carried a bit of his elder-statesman over past black september even though he deferred to black knight more often than not. so the dial is focusing on his leadership and his experience in the bonuses he gets for the whippersnappers whiffing. it's kind of a twist on the gl honor guard ata and a consolation prize for a bad round, and we've all had them.
the ranger , beyond referencing his retconned nom du guerre, provided a pun to play up the range advantage i gave him with that long 8. lots of dials have shorter ranges and they'll feel that disadvantage more with bob. he can comfortably sit out of range and boom away without facing retaliation or he can fly aggressively into the fray knowing at shorter distances, they'll be facing fiercer odds. sure rule of 3, but remember it applies all modifiers first, so he can overcome lots of negative modifiers to his defense by going for danger-close, like when he's blazing that beam carousel
the end dial mr-fixit was to show he was a self-made man and eb/regen always makes for a cheaper resolution and provides function to diminished end dial. it's also a reference to later ultraforce issues where his armor gets trashed and he gets a redesign. but the pc is a nod to him getting the final word on the ultraforce. after hardcase popped out of limbo for a last hurrah before going right back in eternally bob was left in leadership and their last still staring off into the distance was given a hopeful note, and bob's bringing that to his team

oh, was he a product of his times or what? . nowhere near as charming as standard prime, but biker prime, despite the many many other choices in his repertoire, was the immediate choice for me because it was how ultraforce was launched. so rogue prime gets to be prime prime. and oh, yes, as much as i typically use prime slots to get another character in over another take on a character in the set, i just had to have a prime prime in the set
since he was a bad boy, a rule breaker, i opted to have express that rebelliousness by going knuckles-first after the higher ranks and rarities. you're not the boss of me! think you're so special! prime is special! and dealing with all those meta-happy punks with a punch should let his rather simple dial do just a bit more. he charges, he slams, and then he doesn't let anyone go (plas) til he's done punching (cce). and to better differentiate him from the rather stylistic normal prime that's short-dialed by fierce, he tapers off (but compensating with cce) and relies on steal energy to will himself to maintain his form through confidence and violence, the two main ingredients in pubescent power-fantasy boys! . the story at this point had him struggling to maintain, and with concentration, pulling it off, so that's where the dial goes. and as the bad boy ready to tussle, his style of partying lets him get the repositioning to "slam someone into another opponent" with that bonus token or to token them both with a "meeting of the minds" if you opt not to place the target

047.01 TEAM-UP: Ultimates Themed Team: In Multiverse Games (Any player has a game element on their starting force or Sideline that costs points from another Franchise), friendly characters that can use the Ultimates or Ultimate X-Men team ability can use both. (After revealing forces, you may replace character cards with their alternates. You can't choose a Team Up if your starting characters share a name).
With Glitter, you take the opposite path and let her ramp up. The 45 pts dial is particularly good to me. But at 70 you have a nice healer with great meta powers. Then if your opponent decides to go after her, she comes out swinging.
My favorite character of the 7. His pitiful self doubt made him interesting in contrast to his physical prowess. I'm really glad you went with Toughness on this. Great addition with the psychic protection. I had forgotten about that aspect of the character.
Freeing up the defense track does a lot to help capture the character. The Defend and the average attack values captures his teddybear nature wonderfully.
But the thing that says David is that end dial power spike.
Wow. This is a work of art. She is an amazing hard character to design around. You've managed to take that quirky power and make it into some amazing game effects while being dead on in execution.
Antibody and his negative man...er... I mean dark ghosts. While the similarities to Negative Man are obvious, the differences make the character. I like the evolution of his powers right up until he started wearing his negative man and then the Pitt event. I'm glad you stopped short of those and kept him solid.
The shape change power is where it's at. Just perfect for how often she used that trick to get out of some sticky situations.
The 3 bolt incap with that sweet action token removal. I love that it happens before resolutions so you have to take the token from using incap (and not be an endless incap machine).
.....Ultimate Pietro....what can I say. He and his sister...and their "Storyline" is a large part of what put me off the Ultimates.....and then you go and make this great dial......NUTS!
The thing is I'm actually a big Pietro fan, for some reason I've always loved this snarky-speedster!
I just won't play him on a team with Wanda and l'll live in total denial.

Scuzz... what a great character. The most unlikeable of the bunch who throws throws balls of acidic spit at people. Brute keyword indeed.
Powerset looks spot on. I like that you start with him in Scorcher mode and he tails off from there.
I especially like that you did such a good job keeping him in dial. It somehow fits the character well.
yeah, i can see that. he was too aggressive and direct for tricks and his "plans" weren't the best... so keeping it on the dial can fit him. i started designing him and just liked what the standard powers were doing for him so i didn't complicate him from there aside from the necessary . this way he can blaze a trail by blasting some blocking and can burn right through his debris. and with that soft jaw with topdial wp convincing him to go-go-go, he'll be true to character even if he doesn't last long. and that hindering he's wading through is going to give him the extra defense he'll need
i agree that he did a great job of being the character you're not supposed to like. the hothead that helps to move the plot along and inject some drama into the story. once they got back to the institute he really fell off from the gang and never got back. crucial for the on-the-run run, but once the roster wasn't set in stone on the 7, he can be forgotten like in th books. in those early runs he was some necessary offense (both senses of the word) but as they came into their own, he was kinda needed less and i think he felt that. poor, dumb kid

yeah i wanted to have her story on the dial. she "played" rather differently depending on when in the story you were reading her. the mousey pure support to start, but then her own physique started to be affected by her powers and her athleticism grew and she was trained by the cia into a legit fighter. i wanted you to be able to play all her story. where she an avenger, we could get dedicated dials to each phase of her story arc, but dp7 will be once and done at best, so let's give her our best and put it all on there. the rookie gets you the on-the-run dial. the exp gets you the spook. and the vet lets you play her development post-coma.
the bare defense is leaning on the (still a big deal in my little corner of design) and the one sp winds up carrying the dial. it was originally MUCH more complex, and 2 powers were chosen amongst a list and then i was like, dude, just give her support outright and let her PaP her track. it's very easy to over complicate things, but if i can argue against myself, i can trim and slim it like that sweet jazzercise costume she's sporting

But the thing that says David is that end dial power spike.
dave was definitely the heart of the team. no offense, randy. so he gets the defend that makes him the centerpiece for this largely defensively challenged paranormals and the TUC, too. the TUC was cheesy number triggering, but hey, you gotta with a team named dp7, and the pseudo-sidestep was helping to develop the on-the-run sense of their story
i knew i wanted to keep it rather simple for him, too. he wasn't a magnificent fighter, especially before he got trained by the mysterious woodsman (HOW was he not ever revisited?!?!!?) and his powers were fairly straightforward. strong, tough, and getting stronger. the real key distinction was the psychic padlock put on him by the ESPeople. that was just the plot point the story needed to succeed and the character needed for the dial. so those PROTECTIONs and some modest toughness off dial helped to make the rest of the dial distinctive. the stat flow and power spike was to tell the story of the added muscle
and i don't know about you, but i'm inspired to bring back "sheepdip" as fightin' words

Great work.
thank you. that means a lot. i think her dial wound up being the surprise meta piece for the team. she just disarmed people so often that the anti-object stuff became apparent. and then the carry nerf just fit, too. as a point of clarity, while you can't equip within her "aura," you don't auto-unequip by the wording. she'll have to power action away your gear and then good luck getting it again
but the first idea i had was the and it's more subtle plasticity adds. it'll really polish dave's TUC and make the force really hard to pin down and really hard to get away from scuzz when he's fussy. and more anti- will give everyone else a bad day

alas, i did not. that last click on the exp, click 5 is him riding the last dark ghost. i agree that he was more interesting as the summoner archetype than flyguy, but it was part of his story and i wanted him to get the same story arc treatment that i gave glitter. but hey, it's the last click, just stay off it and you're fine
the rookie economically gives you on-the-run basic. he's focused on being a dedicated healer, too, once he's unleashed that dark devil. but the exp lets you go all out with his power upgrade against sylar overshadow. again, dp7 would be once and done at best, so let's give him our best. and i think the autonomous is the polish that makes the dial work so those modest pokers and harassers can go to work, especially when randy's empower gets factored in. take that, STOP clicks!

The 3 bolt incap with that sweet action token removal. I love that it happens before resolutions so you have to take the token from using incap (and not be an endless incap machine).
It's hard not to love this dial.
well, tbf, the colossal stamina and incap are going to keep her being an endless incap machine . she'll still take the token, but the ability to clear what she's got will help inhibit the penalties of the colossal stamina by giving her a refresh before she takes the token for her action. honestly, she grew into quite the deus ex machina. she merely had to show some skin (phrasing) and people went to sleep. it didn't even cost her energy, the opposite actually, draining energy from others. so she could endlessly sap and sleep folks. i think that's why she got the ignoble end that she did because she'd become too narratively strong. frankly, i think they should've thrown robots at them, but that's me

hahahahahaha, "Then I'm playing Pietro correctly!" wins the whole friggin' thread
aw, man, well done. well done
haha, yeah i wanted to wrap up the subtheme i'd started (before i started it) with maker in my doom set and then really set into motion with ultimate kang in my avengers forever set. once i started the dark ultimates with naughty sue, i felt like it was something i could go back and flesh out with the others. and then priming hulk was easy and there's plenty of multiversal speedsters in this set already, so why not go for it?
while sue's dark ultimates scores points on equip to rep the direction of their plan, pietro's dark ultimates enables him to fetch equipment for the team as he did in the story. letting him start out on equipment anywhere is a BIG deal and would be absolutely broken if he could just straight up equip right there, and especially since he didn't use any of the gauntlets, the setup for the team fit the dial more. and even if you don't want him playing fetch, he's got great alpha strike potential. grand entrance alone with his speed value means he's got the reach, but also getting to start out deeper in means he can now alpha strike and get back out of there to demonstrate his blistering speed. and yeah for ultimates ta to give him the he needs to not trip over himself
speaking of the ta, he gets the TUC for earth 1610 and combining the 2 TAs unique to that earth helps to express the smaller, more connected world (MUCH more interconnected than 616) and it serves to add the attitude of the ultimate xmen ta to the ultimates brand in general, which is accurate. and hey, giving him a whopping 3 TAs makes for a great combo.
so let's just get to the elephant in the room. yeah he's got all the fast-paced move&attack you want, but often he'll be "sitting still" and instead "moving faster than the eye can follow" to affect the battlefield. the line is his most memorable quote from vol 2 where he bats away the accusations of doing nothing by boasting he's been busy, you just suck too much to notice. and while it came across as a "yeah ok," he really was doing it . so he gets shades of wanda with super pc that will, in fact, make your bald opponents grow hair just so they have something to pull out . making it a POWER action made it fairer and the lack of on his dial will make you pick your turns and tempo carefully. he's got high range defense to keep from being picked off and demonstrate that implied mobility more, enhance to help out ultimate kang (whom he assumed was wanda) and i liked the nod to the color of his dark ultimates uniform. i was going for the enhance flavor to be him being close and chummy to sue, but daggum do i like your interpretation of it better
the sp is shades of house of m hulk with another blatant numerical easter egg trigger. it's what i do . it'll keep him around with his super pc stacked now with outwit to frustrate more than ever. and i like how accessible it is to putting him out, but how NOT accessible it can be, too. and the STOP protects it so you've just got to deal with it. well, unless ghoul is around
"Squeak"...."I'd like to NOT fight Ultimate Hulk Prime please!"
I gotta say that is a Super-Rare Prime dial and is capable of pulling off the one man army or tentpole roll with equal aplomb.

I'm glad to see these mugs made it into the set, I was kind of thinking they might considering the main theme of the set.
Axum appears like the protagonists from hard luck stories like "Requiem for a Heavyweight".
The "Fight-Bolts" were a dramatic shift in content that the Thunderbolt readership wasn't really expecting and caught a lot of flack during its run.
Axum's powerhouse blows are well modeled by "Stun".
Signature Move: Battler: Axum is going to burn brightly, but oh so briefly if you take full advantage of his gifts....which is perfect for his story!
Mama, I Know Them People Just Playing Me: Axum is going to be a bit more slippery than might first be expected and after a couple of his dynamite hits your opponent might just forget about that Outwit and Perplex protection and give you a chance to ruin their whole day by eating up their support with nothing to show for it.
How To Lose:.....are you going to get that 5 points worth of Empower? Probably, will she sting going down? Certainly! As long as she doesn't get sniped by a Pog she's going to more than pay for herself.
Besides who could resist playing out the whole story?

ha! looks like prime prime is already going up in value. yeah, unavoidable dmg and a -3 defense can take the shine off of anybody
but back to bruce. he was a jerk. and his jerkface came out in full force once he was double-fisting infinity gauntlets (there are more infinity gems in earth 1610). he grew to mammoth size (hence the ) and tanked the whole ultimates. eventually his teammates came to join him and he gave one over to maker, but they pretty much took over the world after that. well, for a bit. you know how these things are
while he didn't wield guantlets the whole story, it was definitely the "sr prime" edge i needed in my design space. so he's got enough points on the exp line to afford one of the gauntlets and spawn the other. or at oma vet, he gets to generate the one for free. it's ok, he's less dependent on equipment at the oma level since his STOPs aren't working against him. instead of a secondary starting line, i liked them starting the same and letting the sp dictate death instead. since hulk's gotta hulk up, cutting off the backend is more costly
and what a backend (phrasing). that sp is going to be absolute murder as his printed dmg value gets to ultimate hulk proportions. he was the original printed 6 (on a standard dial). freddy prinze jr is gonna get it soooo bad
Besides who could resist playing out the whole story?
yeah my mind went to these guys real quick when planning out the set. there really weren't many of note and a couple slots (one that was DEFINITELY going to be in there anyway so why leave axum out?) gets another subtheme and some more robust representation of the myriad (no not that one) of marvel brawlers and grapplers. lydia was almost a chase, too, but her presence wasn't that big in the book. more window dressing and cover-material (gotta go with that iconic cover for the pog, too). so i like her as a tagalong better. her ring rat gives her classic clix "love" (please and thank you, WoL shorthand ) since that was why she was in the book. gotta handle axum, after all
for his dial, i made him a heavy brawler for obvious reasons, but i think the stun adds just enough sting to his strikes to keep him interesting. and you're right, his signature move absent any wp is gonna make him burn out, but he's not here for long rounds, he wants the quick payoff anyhow and if pushing for another strike appeals, howabout pushing for 2? coupled with his triggered fury, he should be able to land some fierce oomf when pushed to pushing. especially end dial when he trades the stun for reversal and is ready to stack blows til the bell rings
the idea behind the was that he knew what was what from the getgo. his "handlers" didn't fool him. but he got what he could out of it at the same time. so yeah you can mm to him or pull the ol' sc sandbag, but he's crafty and prepped for it. and the outwit/perplex resistance (thanks again, WoL) will let him keep that defense and maybe a bit more so as he knows the opposition is trying to play him, too.
