beyond hasbani I don't have any LE of SS, and I don't have a single liao unit. Either I go with hasbani, or I go with a small infantry like the SS hovercraft.
What makes this reallly nailbiting for me is the top 5 players of the marquee, then next week play a 600pt melee, with the winner getting a dropship. AND I WANT A BLOODY DROPSHIP.
<phew>... I was worried there for a minute when you guys were mentioning no terrain... Derek Hasbani isn't nearly as nasty without the possibility of vent 4, or cool 2. Ah, water, can't play swordsworn mechs without it, lol ;)

"Shallow Water:

You can still be charged and DFA'd... or rammed as well... but if they have a minimum range issue and can't shoot you, they have to end up in the water as well to close combat you...
Edit: Derek Hasbani in water, so he cools two or vents 4... <evil grin> now all I have to do is lure the liao player within 6" of the water... that is the hard part, lol
thats where your remaining 164 points and luck at pulling come into play. After thinking about the terrain and the special cooling bonus for this scenario, I'm sold on the atlas.

Agreed. I was 80% sold on Hasbani, as it was. This pretty much
cinches it for me, as well! ;)

Yep, I figure I can move very slowly (who cares, no artillery, right?) and move Hasbani with a base shield of vtols, cheap vehicles and infantry... slowly move up the field, hugging the map edge to help ward one side from charges... and move into the other players DZ... hopefully the Liao player will lose his patience and engage me in combat, otherwise I'll try to garner more VC3 than they can...
I'm only really worried about being charged successfully by a mjolnir or something like that.... but the use of base screens, and sticking close to the terrain and map edges should help me avoid that...
I figure with Hasbani, it is action (gain a token), action (get a heat), cool naturally (lose token)... I'm not going to cut loose with him and alphastrike or push repeatedly unless the odds are really with me to deal a lot of damage...
Also, with the amount of SS units in CA, I figure from three boosters I should be able to draw 2 more SS units... enough to get a firing formation... hopefully I get three so I can have a move formation too, but that isn't totally necessary...
anyone else have any ideas for tactics with Hasbani?
Edit: Hasbani won faction wars for me, so I'm confident he is a playable piece if used conservatively... Alphastrike for 10 clicks in a firing formation to have a 14 attack rating ;-)
Sounds, to me, like you have a pretty good strat. I've never
played Hasbani before (of course, that applys to many 200+
pointers) but 450 makes it a brand new ballgame! ;)
I started out playing SSw. Used to play Fetanet Eryaman a lot and
only shut down with him once (because I was pushing him to try
to destroy something at the end of a match). You're right when
you say conservatism is the key.
I'd LOVE to pull a Swordsworn Fulcrum and Pegasus, to form up
with Mr. Hasbani. The Shoden wouldn't be bad, either! ;)
Ok, what units from CA should Derek Hasbani be afraid of?
Any of the riflemen or shockwaves should be beatable with Hasbani remaining workable, if close to salvage...
The Kodiak would be a pain, but the key on that one is to alphastrike on the initial shot and blow him past his Godzilla click...
The Longbow? Trade shots, you should win this one... 10's vs 13's to hit, lol
The Bounty Hunter? Now this one does scare me, but what are the odds I'd have to face him?
The smaller uniques and the mjolnirs, raiders, etc? Not really a problem, they could harrass, but would need to be really lucky to hurt the Atlas and not get killed by the return shot... assuming of course that I can keep him base screened with my other 164 pts to keep the chargers away.... any mjolnir or p-hawk landing a charge and knocking him out of the hardened armor and 10 attack would be devasting... so base screen and use terrain to keep them away...
Declan Devalis? The Marauder would be taken down with rolls being even on both sides... I doubt the pulse would really come into play, but if this fight happened, Derek would have to stay in the water to keep cool...
Well, really, staying in the water is the key to fighting any mech that can take more than a shot or two from the Atlas, because almost any mech is going to be more pushable than Derek Hasbani...
The Liao Uniques? I have no idea, haven't seen or played against them...

I think the SS Mjolnir will rule the court this weekend. Such long range with 4 damage AND only takes one, and its not a ranged attack. The Cavalries will also be good. Their range being short anyway, and being decently fast, means they will have longer range than other units with a move-shoot.
