Originally posted by spid3rm4n I have to disagree. Kent Farm combined with Soldiers of New Genesis makes for a nasty deck. With Birthing Chamber to draw cards, and Serifan to protect your endurance, this deck is one to be reckoned with.
STAR Labs, however, is not a very good card, especially for a rare.
Wow you are so right. Star Labs is such crap. I mean it wouldn't combo well with anything with cosmic. Zeitgeist wouldn't love to see this card especially after Spin doctoring.
Star labs will be sought after trust me. Maybe not now, but soon.
Agreed. Between Superman, Blue, who just went from blatantly average to potentially busted and the ever-lovable Zeitgeist who can become even more BS on turns 7 and up, there's a lot of potential for STAR Labs for those willing to think outside the "solid curve" mentality.
Simply put, there's no rare in this set I can't see being entirely useless. Evil Star looks close, but in the right Army abuse deck, he could be downright nasty. Between the Starlings and other new swarm superstars, he has a good amount of potential to be devastating.
Even Jericho looks like he could be pretty evil if he's played in the late game and kept alive for a turn. "Sure, I'll go ahead and take your Apocalypse from you because I have no 9-drop of which to speak." If Titans games go long, he's a potential clincher... I'd watch him as the metagame shifts.
Originally posted by Asmodeus I'm starting to think towards a Superman Red/Superman Robots deck with Kandor, Kent Farm, and Star Labs. Might be useful.
I was thinking that too, until I re-read Kandor: it doesn't affect army characters. However, the thought of Jimmy Olsen, Perry White and Lois Lane putting the smack on Doomsday is just too funny to resist. The potential of the Farm, Kandor and Witching Hour in combination (with the appropriate team-up, of course) is downright sick too...
Anyway, to keep things from going too far off topic: I'm happy with the majority of the rares in this set, but I'm one of those casual players who likes to throw together fun/thematic decks on occasion. More cards = more fuel for the insanity!
No... LoA/TS. On turn 8, the big Ra's makes Kandor non-unique. Discard two TS character cards to bring out Lois Lane and Lana Lang for free. If you had two face-down Kandors in addition to one face-up earlier, they become 10/10 each. Sure, they're incredible Overload/Flame Trap bait, but that is 27 points of ATK on turn 8. Plus, with some of the LoA effects such as the stunned character tricks working well in swarm builds, it's conceivable that such a deck could be workable.
Multiple Kent Farms would work in much the same way, since you've already commited to not solo attacking. Glory Hound becomes a major pain, unfortunately.

I'm really lost. Who or what is Kent Farm? It sounds like a location, but I didn't see it at the Pre-release.
Also at first sight Jail Bird looks terrible, but I'm thinking that there may be some interesting control strategies opening up that may include JB.
Kent Farm bothers me a bit simply because ironically, it is useless against characters with Invulnerability. Team attacking, you'll never cause breakthrough and you'll never cause stun damage, and TS doesn't seem to have a way to get rid of Kent Farm easily.
Jailbird isn't a "great" card, but I recently learned how useful it can be. If I may....
In a thread in the rules section, I said that Green Lantern might be my favorite set, because all the cards require finesse to use. Pest Control was the card in question, and the poster thought it was useless because during the recovery phase the character couldn't ready. However, I feel that timed right, Pest Control can save you.
Now, Jailbird is the same thing. My first reaction was that the card was going to be fun to keep their one-drop alive late in the game so I could do mega-breakthrough. But that was my old TNB self. My new GLC self sees how useful the card can be in a stalling deck. You dont' attack much, but lets say on your opponent's intiative they stun your board, and you only stun their biggest guy in the attack. They are more than happy with that, since he'll recover. You might as well use Jailbird and ensure that he won't attack next turn.
Jailbird is best used when you know a character is going to be recovered anyway (usually when it's the only one stunned) and you don't want to worry about it the next turn.

Agreed. This is pretty much the same conclusion I've come to. Although I've also be kicking around the idea of an aggro-control deck that smashes your opponent, in the process taking down their biggest guy who will undoubtedly be recovered anyway, but now won't be able to attack back the next turn.
BTW. I Still Don't Know What Kent Farm is or Does.
well... Jailbird has more uses besides the on that has already been said.. This card just screams Dr. Ub'X... Who do you think they will KO when on turn four you stunned his 2 and 4 drop?? Just put the 2 drop in the cage and forget about that 4...
Originally posted by rastax5 IMO, Reign of terra has no potential at all. Deathstroke himself has no effect besides making other people his team affiliation. He has no plot twists or locations or equipment that benefit his team. There is no bonus to using him. He doesn't have even above average stats. Someone point out how in any way Reign of terra is worth the 2 cents it cost to make the card.
thats not true, he alows you to take some of the strongest charcters from each team into one deck, but uintill thery can get around other charcters loyalty issues and payment effects and use other teams plot twists i don;t see it being strong enough.
Wow you are so right. Star Labs is such crap. I mean it wouldn't combo well with anything with cosmic. Zeitgeist wouldn't love to see this card especially after Spin doctoring.
If you can figure out a way to spend resource points during the combat phase, great, go ahead and put STAR Labs in your X-Statix deck. Until then, though, I think I'll pass.
crap cards:
That league plot twist, wow, lets reprint tower of babel, and make it do what most people thought babel did originally which is take away team affiliations of defenders, then make it so you don't do breakthrough so the reason you got excited about misreading babel is no longer an issue. Sure it stops random stuff like lost city and titans tower, but making it so they don't have to reinforce might end up hurting you even more as they attack back. I don't think granting a burn rubber to everyone is worth taking away their affiliations.
ragman - awful, be fun splashed in xstatics though hehe, i don't see missing your 6 drop for his effect ever being a winning play unless you're playing BnB and already have the game locked away. Win more cards are useless.
Star Labs, just about anything that costs resource points is bad unless it fits in an off the curve deck or can be used on turn 1 for a long term benefit. Star Labs isnt useable on turn 1 and I don't see any off the curve cosmic decks.
Jericho is garbage. I thought he was a 1 drop and still thought he was garbage! Then I noticed he was a 3 drop but didnt notice the KO txt and thought it was reuseable, and still, thought he was garbage. Now that I've finally given him full attention I realize he's one of the worst cards they've printed. i mean his ability is only good from turn 8 or 9 onward which means you somehow survived that far having missed your 3 drop (playing jericho is missing a 3 drop) or by dropping jericho on some later turn, oh and you got that far without shootign with roy. Oh man he's bad.
Commander Crap he should be called. If his ability wasnt cosmic he'd be good, but it is, so he's not. Yeah new genesis him to get back his cosmic orrrrrr play a real 4 drop and new genesis the guy you were going to give cosmic back to, now there's a thought.
6 drop EE guy. I didnt even notice at first you had to activate him and still thought he was bad. Adding activation to his cost makes him even worse. How in the world could it be considered beneficial to exhaust your 6 drop and ko 7 other guys who somehow managed to survive that long (or even better ko the 6 drop too) to ko the opponents 6 drop. Its not! Ok, maybe after a dr light boost on turn 9 with another dr light coming out next turn! Ooh, or maybe in combination with witching hour! Now there's some winning deck ideas .... not even within his team.
hal jordan 5. Hey lets make a rare 5 drop just like thing with no text but with mediocre stats. Once Xstatics green lantern wins a 10k i'll change my mind.
reign of terra however is the king. Not only is the name retarded (was sure it was a joke) but its absolutely useless. I mean its a card that benefits you only if you're playing mojo and/or you want your mojoverse to be able to effect more than one affiliated character a turn and/or you want to play deathstroke in a deck without all unaffiliateds. WTF?!? So its a card that makes 3 AWFUL cards slightly better? Where's the point in that? Why would anyone play this card? Cuz you want to play post in your unaff deck? You're playing mojoverse i allows you to do the same damn thing. You want everyone teamed up so you're playing deathstroke but post is your 5 drop? Play mosaic world adn team attack/reinforce 5 turns earlier, oh and play a real 7 drop instead of the no text 15/15. It doesnt even enable any FUN janky combo decks. Just boring BAD curve decks. They'll need some 10-20 more cards made in the future that have to do with deathstroke/unaff to not make this card forever and completely dead.
not crap:
Ion is crap? are you kidding me? He's an amazing stall device.
Prison Planet? Have you even bothered to play with the card? I too was hesitant about the 'no reinforcement' text but then i played it and its awesome. +2 for everyone is huge in limited and will be in modern age constructed as well. In rush decks you hardly ever reinforce anyways, plus if they're doing lots of breakthrough they're swinging at your small drops meaning you're keeping all your good characters. Its no TNB since its unique but its a great card. Its first pick draft material.
Mogo's not that bad, its a pretty good flexible utility card that improves guy gardner 5 drop, oa, crappy gl 6 drop, uppercut, battle of wills, that rare 7 drop guy for ee and gl, star sapphire, ring has chosen, arisa or whatever that 1 drops name is, etc etc.
kent farm is good. Lana and lois become 0 cost 4/4s, combine with kandor and they're 0 cost 7/7s. It doesnt fit in a normal golden age superman dekc but its certainly a powerful card that can fit in a good deck. If you think cards are bad if they require decks to be built around them instead of just being able to insert them into old decks then apparently every GL, EE, MH, and AM card is bad cuz it has a new teamstamp and you can't just modify your old deck with it.
Walter.....Shhhh! I WANT people to think Reign of Terra and Kent Farm and Armies of Qward, etc are crap rares! Maybe then I can afford to buy them outside of finding them in a box! If you disclose all the tech possibilities, then peeps might start to think of them in a better light....Let the unimaginative stick to the Hal Jordan <> Spectres, and leave the "hidden" rares for people like you and me.

The only way that RoT has synergy is to let you recruit Deathstroke as long as you control two characters, regardless of if they were alligned or not. But, there would be very little benefit to doing so, leaving the Terminator out of work for a while longer.
Kent Farm - They've got a lot of small characters that could have some interesting synergy ... they could just keep bringing out copies of 3-drop Supes to team attack amongst themselves. Team up with Manhunters, and you can swarm out Supe-Bots. Rose/Thorn and Supergirl are beefy, and Krypto needs someone to team attack anyway, etc ... Someone would have to find it out, but it would probably involving Kandor on 6 as well [another under appreciated rare] ... with the stuff that helps swarm decks, it might have a chance, if nothing else than in DC Modern Age.
