A player at my venue has a fairly extensive Marvel-only collection, but has not played the game since the original rules set.
Last month he fielded this team, and came in 4th out of 4. As you can see, it's somewhat optimized for the pre-NAAT rules.

The tournament was an Open Unrestricted tournament, but he additionally doesn't seem too interested in getting Indy or DC figures.
Does anyone have basic suggestions that I might pass along to him?

Take out the Vultures and Kingpin and Human Torch and you could put in another heavy hitter or a mid ranged peice and a little more support.

With the Ultimates set released, you need a character from the Ultimates team to see through stealth and hindering terrain.

Black Cat E 32 - Probability Control

You will need to force a reroll at some point during your match. Spider-man Ally allows you to copy Ultimates and Avengers TA.

Black Panther R 27 - Outwit

Your team has to be able to turn off an opponent's superpower. Avengers TA allows a free move action.

Nightcrawler U 83 - Harrasser

The best in the game.

Jean Grey V 50 - TK & Support

TK your characters out into play.

Spider-Man E 40 (ui001) - Clobber

Super Strength allows Spider-man to pick up a heavy object and clobber your opponent for 4 clicks of damage. Spider-man Ally allows him to copy Ultimates & Avengers TA.

Paramedic R 8 - Support

Secondary Support piece. If I could have fit a Con Artist on this team, I would have.
