This is a pretty decent figure, the dial is respectable for a 120 points figure. Plus he has the Justice League keyword which adds him to my favorite team.
BUT, it's that horrible trait that ruins him. This is possible the worst trait I've ever read on any figures card.

I agree with you! And to make it worse, this piece doesn't have will power.
This Manhunter really needs an alternate victory condition involving the cookies ala the first movie Guardians Collector.
Please fix this WK!
They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." Robert Downey/Tony Stark
I mean, we can speak with our wallets, not purchase these and not accept them at any WKOs, formal events. Make them stop making such garbo DC pieces and letting us get some good sets.
.. so this guy starts the game on click 2, can't be carried or placed, can't make ranged attacks, and has to spend the game trying to get these objects, or slowly die? Plus he has no willpower, your opponent not only gets to place these objects as far away as possible, but they can generate more of them?! even at +1 his stats don't merit that level of craziness. damn waste of a pretty cool sculpt.
Lack of willpower hurts this guy terribly. I suppose if you are a huge MM fanboy and really want to use this piece he plays best with the chase WF Wonder Woman healer.
He’s probably a bit more playable with the green lantern power battery and the soul gem but at that point you’re putting up so much stuff just so this figure could be decent. Hardly seems worth it, but it has a cool sculpt and Martian Manhunter is a cool character so there you go?
If that trait were adjusted a bit (maybe if there's more than 3 objects on the map or something) and Willpower it would make him more playable. As is you have to build so much of your team around him.
I think to get the best out of him you need:
- Leadership/token removal from D19-005 Batman and/or re014 Prez Rickard
- TK can get cheap JL from btas069e GL at 30 or ffre006e Bat-Man for JLI
Some healing (tmts010 Thunderstrike is ideal) would be great not to mention decent secondary attacker is also needed. This MM can hit hard but can easily get dogpiled on if he gets into his mid clicks, so you need someone to help take the pressure off. ffre003e The Flash would be great, low points, lot's of movement.
Something else to keep in mind, per his trait:
Quote
At the beginning of your turn, if a Choco object is on the map, deal Martian Manhunter 1 unavoidable damage and until your next turn, he can use Battle Fury and modifies his combat values +1.
A held object is not on the map per the rules:
Quote
HOLDING AN OBJECT
A character can hold only one object at a time. When an
object is held by a character, it is considered off the map
and only can be affected by effects that specify held
objects.
So there's that I suppose, have other characters pick up objects and just hold them to keep them off the map.
300 is tight to build around him, 400 not so bad.
I know I'm stretching, like a number of others commenting J'onn is one of my favorites and he gets made few and far between (upcoming JLU set aside).
Playable for the cost, even if a little *too* accurate to the issue this design is based on (Martian Manhunter #24, Volume 2). In Golden Age, use the Damage Control BFC to prevent Choco generation.
