Anyway, I figured that the Brainiac couldn't fire up at Sinestro with RCE, just because they are based. It seems, however, that if Sinestro is considered soaring, then it's fair game, but otherwise, no dice. If Brainiac was Soaring, then no problem... but I guess being on the ground counts s being based (a point that could have been moot if Saturn Girl, Brainiac, and Sinestro are all soaring).

Though they are not soaring, both Braniac and Sinestro are still flyers. As such, both of them can use ranged attacks against each other, even when based. On that point, we do not disagree (I think...)
Yeah. But when I was gonna MC Brainiac, he was hovering. That's why I wanted to know if he could shoot up at Sinestro, like you can with a soaring character. I figured no, but it would have been SWEET if I could have done it.

I'm trying to tell you that you CAN do that. It's perfectly legal. A flyer is still a flyer, no matter if he is hovering or Soaring. All flyers can attack anyone they can draw LOF to with ranged attacks, even if they are adjacent to other characters.
A big figure Sentinel and characters on elevated terrain may make ranged combat attacks against each other as if they were on the same terrain level. Soaring characters and a big figure Sentinel may attack each other, and when targeting each other both use their full range.
Again, I do not see where it states that the Sentinel is considered Elevated (edit-errr...Soaring I mean...) for any reason. He can simply attack soaring figs at his full range, and soaring figs can attack him at thier full range.
PL... it's not often that you and I disagree, but we certainly do here. Yes, this says the big figs can attack a soaring figure at full range. It also says a soaring figure can attack them at their full range. The only other place the rules say anything remotely like this, is when a soaring figure is attacking a soaring figure. In fact, that is the only time a soaring figure can attack at all while soaring, is against another soaring figure. Since the big fig must, therefore, be at soaring elevation, then if the Trooper is in an adjacent square on the map to a big fig, then in fact, he is adjacent to the big fig. In other words, the Trooper can make a close combat attack (or if friendly, the big fig can use the Trooper's SHIELD ability). Of course, there is always this line in the latest Sentinel rules --

6. May be attacked by grounded, elevated, or soaring characters using Close or Ranged Combat attacks, and is adjacent to characters in adjacent squares regardless of elevation.
In my day, we didn't have Heroclix. If you were being attacked by Superman with a 3d dumpster, you just had to hope you could outrun him.
Well, that's just the best now ain't it?! I could have kicked the carp out of the "Legion of Doom" theme team alot more quickly, and might not have lost V Cosmic Boy in the process. I haven't seen the new lines either. I know now why I need to check more often.
Thanks all...
Next time remind me to tell you about the 4 hour arguement I had when V Iceman tried to throw a barrier on a tree that V Robin was standing in, and then tell me that because it was now blocking terrain, the Batman TA was null and void...
(Man, and I thought I didn't check the FAQ's enough)

Well... to be honest, it's not a new line. It's been in there for quite some time. It's part of the first section of numbered rules. And that may be why everyone misses it. It's in the middle of that rules list. Very easily missed and/or very easily forgotten.
