MANY gamers griped about it and now we get a version of him that not only can fly, but takes away flight from other characters which isn't something he did in the comics. This is a comical apology from the designers...
One of my favourite memories of Alpha Flight is actually when Shaman downed the X-men on two separate instances by summoning a storm so incredibly powerful that they had to land their jets or suffer the consequences. I had assumed that the Trait was a nice nod to this ability.
He didn't obviously ground individual fliers, but giving him an ability which specifically downed planes would be a little too specialist really.
Either way, this is a great figure which does everything Shaman should be able to do. I look forward to using him. Can already think of quite a lot of maps where that trait is going to let you dominate the board.
Pair him up with the new grundy coming out :ko::ko::ko::ko:
Why wouldn't you just use the dwarves from fear itself to make light objects for grundy. they're only 20 pts each with indom. Save 72 points of room for more character/resources.
I prefer him with characters with hypersonic or move and attack abilities so the can pump extra damage in. Such as 4 johnny quicks and him for an annoying team.
For Shaman's trait, since it doesn't specify friendly or opposing characters, the no flight spell affects all characters on the map besides Shaman, correct?
Shaman is a figure with lots of uses that don't always overlap... if you're pumping out objects for your team, you aren't attacking with him. If you're using him to attack, you aren't TKing pieces... etc. There's lots he can do but having to choose means you're paying for the other options you aren't using.
To get the best mileage out of him, you can either try to "drag out" the opening confrontation by denying your opponents Flight/Carry while pumping out objects and arming your team with them - or, option 2, send him slightly forward to be a Perplex+TK cannon for your powerhouses and then use him as a clean-up attacker. His Mystics and ES/D are good deterrents, but outside of a lucky Regen don't expect he'll take more than 2 hits to remove. Sidestep is *begging* to be used to set up a Support roll, especially since he can Carry the figure he wants to Support out of harm's way so he can make the heal attempt.

yeah he hasn't aged well. we desperately need a new one. the OP Kit Alpha Flight members are still pretty good, and they sprinkled in some new members with Her, Captain Marvel, Wolverine & Sasquatch in recent sets. hopefully we get a new Shaman & Puck soon. they could even do another OP kit with new dials for Shaman, Puck & Snowbird.
