For the life of me, I'll never understand folks' preference for fb. The whole thing is such a cesspool. It's what I imagine the atmosphere was like in Delphane just prior to the Sect and the League departing.
I won't look at your dial-on-card, I don't look at my own, and you don't need to see my DOC, ever. Otherwise, we're not playing HeroClix.
The Mage Knight community was one of the best at its height. Arguments were few and far between (Although I can recall a couple of blazers). Since the game went away many of we old timers seem to have faded away and I miss that. Still play when I can and always check here to see who's around. Its good to hear from you again Imbalance.
Full title: Warlord Frod, high priest of EL, dragon slayer, keeper of the keys, watcher of the way and bearer of the cup of JAVA!
I LOL'd every time I saw that dread post: "PMed." I mean, if you're a collector, when did it become wise strategy to tell anybody else that you were making a bid for a fig? It just invites competition and bidding wars, which doesn't help you make the best deal. And the recipient is going to see your PM no matter what, so you're not telling him or her anything they don't already know. You're just inviting competition! SMH.
Actually, I do understand the appeal of the FB group. Primarily, for me at least, it's the ability to easily post pictures and video. As minis games are a 3D medium, it's great to see the warriors all staged out for combat, and it adds so much to posts about battle reports or unboxings. It also helps to clarify condition for sales and trades, or just curiosity. For example, until somebody recently posted on FB about the two different versions of Snow from Nexus, I did not know that there were two available, let alone how to distinguish among them. For another example: If you all saw Mike J. O'Brien's recent post about the custom paint job he is working on, can you imagine only just reading about the existence of metal castings of the Sinister horsemen -- without being able to see what they really look like? The visual aspect of the FB MK group makes the experience so much more tangible.
Another huge hook that the FB MK group has is the access to Mage Knight's creators. Sure, some of the playtesters, warlords and other WK employees used to frequent the Realms, but how long has it been since you've seen any of them here? And the Realms never had the original sculptors. The FB MK group currently has 3 of them. As a fan as well as a player and collector, it's a joy to see them there and interact with them. Like going to a Con on any given night.
Look, I agree that it's annoying to see a barrage of trade and sale threads. But for me, I can easily scroll past them just like I skip over all the political stuff that shows up in my FB feed during election years. It's a pain, but a minor inconvenience, really, well worth the effort to have access to a vibrant, passionate MK community once again. It's a different community from the Realms to be sure -- that group represents who is playing /collecting the game now, not 20 years ago -- but it is still a vibrant group with active members.
I don't blame and won't judge any of you who choose not to return to the FB MK group, and I'll keep showing up here b/c the Realms is always going to be my MK home page. I do hope some of you will reconsider, though. There are lots of old-timers on that FBMK page, too, even if we're not as vocal or don't post as often as the newbies, and speaking as one of those old-timers, I appreciate the contributions you collectively have made and continue to make to the MK community.
Well, 'nuff said. I'll see you guys here or there -- and I hope I'll see some of you at Origins in October.
Also, for those who left the group and haven't heard, one of the guys who was pretty aggressive and arguably offensive to old-guard players and employees was recently banned from the group. So if you do come back, you may find the atmosphere a bit more friendly now.
The straight MK page is still mostly buy/sell/trade (to me). The MK Grandmasters is a bit better and I've stayed there. Anyhow, give me a call... we need an MKD weekend!

I've been there several times. Never got caught up in anything ugly. One guy referenced me and called me a legend... can't be all bad LoL!
Enter the Champion, Prince By-Tor appears.

Honestly, I hadn't heard there was an active facebook group! What's the best way to find it?
I'm having a bit of a post-quarantine MK renaissance and it'd be fun to see some other folks chatting about it as the realms is often a little quiet these days.
Sometimes I blog about heroclix. Sometimes I blog about the existential crises I experience while thinking about heroclix.
Here is a link to the group page on FB. There is also one called "Mage Knight Grandmasters," primarily based in the Philippines. But this link is to a general catch-all MK page -- the subject of this thread:
