I'm new to the game and trying to learn the basic team composition archetypes, and one that my playgroup, myself included, loves to play with is a character over 125 points (in our 300-point games) with the power cosmic.
When confronting a brick sh*thouse, what is the best way to go about killing it? Is it to keep throwing haymakers and hope for the best?
Examples that I need help with:
Thanos (ABPI 074)
Venom God of Symbiotes (M23-005)
Blue Marvel (AV60 031)
So these days, cosmic tentpoles aren't as good as they were in the old times. Action Economy is your friend. You can fill a 300 point team with 4-5 attackers vs his 1-2.
For almost any figure, the way to win is almost always the same-do more damage to them then they can do to you. It looks like the big problem you're having is Invincible not being able to be outwitted. That's fine, just deal more to them then they can handle. For Marvel and Thanos, it's not that tough. Just find high-damage pieces that reliably hit. Empower will be your friend.
Two Hulks:
Cheap empower:
And now if you can land two attacks, you've dealt at least 12 damage (more with an object). That should put a dent in almost anyone. Admittedly keeping them moving can be a bit of an issue, but Falcon helps with that.
Venom's a bit trickier because he packs Shape Change and all kinds of healing options via his Symbiotes. Well, bring Battle Fury and Flurry to start. He's the new hotness though, so don't feel bad if you can't reliably stand against him.
