Hi, this may seem like a stupid question but within the rulebook I am noticing that 1x2 base game elements are classified as both special and standard characters. Can someone help clear this up?
A standard character is one that:
▪ Isn’t a bystander.
▪ Has a single base or a 1x2 (“extended”) base.
▪ Has as its only attack combat symbol(s), has (or ) as its only defense combat
symbol, and has as its damage combat symbol.
and then listed later under special characters:
24 Special Characters
24.2 Multi-Base Game Elements
Multi-Base Game Elements have a base that takes up more than one square. They can be:
▪ 1x2 bases (called “extended base”)
▪ 2x2 bases
▪ 2x4 bases
▪ 3x6 bases
A multi-base game element occupies all of the squares its base occupies. Multi-base characters
can’t be knocked back.
Are they standard or are they special? Does this mean 1x2's can be assigned equipment, and also not be knocked back?
There are effects that reference "standard characters" but I don't believe there is anything (rules or cards) that reference "special characters". This is to say, I don't believe "special characters" are a thing, just a heading, where as "standard characters" and "multi-base characters" are a thing, with some overlap between the two.

The only kind of example I can think of is something like Gambit:

(Improved) Movement: Hindering
(Improved) Targeting: Hindering
(Special) Excalibur, Mystical Protectors: [Mystics TA], but only triggers during range attacks. Gambit has PROTECTED: [Mystics TA].
(Speed) I Ain't Sure Why You Need A Thief: Running Shot, Stealth.
(Attack) Oh, It Ain't Magic: Energy Explosion, Precision Strike. // FREE: Make an attack, but only to target a single non-standard character.
but yea it says non standard. So I think I understand this rule now? It's just so strange, so something can be Standard AND special? I was mostly asking because of equipment rules for the WOV 1x2s.
