TK and adjacency question

If a person with TK is adjacent to a friendly and an opponent, but the friendly and the opponent aren't adjacent to each other, can the TK'er still TK the friendly away?

You could do that even if the friendly and the opponent were adjacent. And no breakaway roll needed either as the TKee isn't being given an action.
