Getting back on the subject of Clix we'd like to see, specifically the under-represented Young Justice characters, who would be on your Young Justice team?
Order 66 - It's not just policy, it's fun, too!

Why give Speedy HIV if it's not ever going to be a problem or represented correctly? How is that educational?
Yeah, the poison thing was a joke, unPC but, who cares who gets offended right?? Sorry if I don't agree with it, nor chuckle.
You may or may not know how hard Judd Winnick has worked to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and to make strides against Gay hate crimes.
Unfortunately HIV/AIDS is about to reach a new level, and awareness needs to as well. Teen Titans taking on a member with HIV who is scared to tell her peers is hardly being "represented incorrectly" and "not educational". This is and can be a real problem. Teen Titans may reach an audience that his other books do not, and I applaud Geoff Johns for taking up the torch with Judd Winnick.
There are other causes to take up against....Half Naked women in comics, too much violence, etc etc....please do not take up against someone who is actually trying to better society through this artform.
By the by, I would like to say good review. I always enjoy your take on things, even if I don't fully agree.
I love Arsenal, and play him frequently now...sometimes with great results...barely ever is he useless. I agree that one click of RCE might have been nice, so that Trick Shot could come into play (he is an Arrowling, he's gotta have some tricks left).

Sure, kudos to Winnick for raising awareness about important issues. I respect him for that. I don't like that his writing seems to suffer for it when he does this. I find him to be too heavy-handed.
Now, having said that I respect him for raising issues, I have major issues with the current Speedy storyline.
As someone else mentioned earlier, she is a superhero whose modus operandi is to use bladed projectile weapons. It would be irresponsible enough if she was an energy blaster, or invulnerable and the risk of bloodshed was somewhat negligible...but, she's a street level character who uses bladed projectile weapons. The potential for bodily fluid contact is much too high.
NBow, some of you are probably thinking, "Dude, it's a comic.'. Yep, and I like to read comics about superheroes. But, when I see characters like Green Arrow and Connor (and Batman and Robin--'cause who are we kidding, they know) condoning this irresponsibility, it pulls me right out of the story.
Someone made the Boxing analogy earlier. This is like that, but worse. She (like Ollie) is a trained hand-to-hand combatant, but they do it bare knuckled, so there is more blood. Plus, the shoot and stab with balded weapons. It's idiotic to think that other heroes in the DCU wouldn;'t have issues with this.
If Captain Atom had a slow leak that caused cell deterioration with short term close contact, don't you think the JLA would ask him to retire?
Winnick should have picked a better title to explore this kind of an issue in--one where the stupidity of the situation didn't negate any message he's trying to convey.
And, just to clarify my stance on HIV-infected people ( so you knwo where I'm coming from): they should be allowed to do most things, but obviously should be restricted from participating in actiovities that pose extreme risk for uninfected people. We don't (usually) let laymen perform surgery, we shouldn't let people carrying fatal contagious diseases compete in Ultimate Fighting against uninfected people. It's not even a human rights/civil righst issue--it's a matter of public health.
Back to comics: Batman doesn't let 'unsanctioned' heroes operate in Gotham--I hardly think he'd let Robin fight alongside someone who could infect him with a fatal disease.

Okay, you (and many others) had me up until you started with the bladed projectile weapons part. You don't grasp the head of the arrow. Street level character, yes I can give you that. Her use of arrows is fairly irrelevant though. Other people using bladed weapons on her is another story however. The HIV virus is also fairly fragile (by comparison to say the flu virus). It needs fluids. Even if she DID cut herself on her own arrow (somehow) and fire said arrow, the virus probably wouldn't last through the flight (unless she were dipping the arrows in her own blood or something, but I don't see that happening).
Not only that, but its not like if you contracted HIV from someone, you would even see any symptoms from the virus in the short timespan of the one single combat.

I think I understand your point. But, the problem is--GA's opponents almost ALWAYS get a hold of the arrows. In the last 30 or so issues, he's probably been stabbed by his won arrows more than a half a dozen times.
There's a lot of blood floating around in his series. The problem is, the archers supply their opponents with the bladed weapons--arrows.
Yeah, she likely won;t cut herself all that often (and I think she wears gloves), but if past issues are any indication, she will be cut by her arrows--wielded by her opponents.
Oh, and the virus would survive the flight of the arrow. Blood takes longer than that to deoxygenate, so the virus would still have a viable environment. But, I see your point.

What difference would that make?
Anyway, I've made my point, so I intend to let that aspect of this thread die.
Well the original article mentioned that they should treat her HIV like the poison effect. But even if someone contracted HIV from Speedy during a combat, it wouldn't have any effect on them until months later.

Ah, I didn't get the reference to the bad joke from the initial post.
To think, all this started becuase of one poor-taste joke. Gotta love the intarweb.
