Scott (Cyclops) is a tough character to write. CC has been the only person to have him nailed. But, I will admit that Grant Morrison's unique take on Scott was quite interesting.
And, for the record, Scott doesn't angst over Jean. When she was dead after the Dark Phoenix story he got around with plenty of women. Colleen Wing (or was it Misty Knight?), Ally Forrester and Madelyne Pryor just to name three.
On a side note:
CC has already mentioned that Madelyne was NEVER supposed to be a clone of Jean. He intentionally created her and added all those Phoenix/Jean circumstantial clues/evidence to tease the fans and keep us guessing. Madelyne was supposed to be just what she was: a love interest for Scott to finally overcome his mourning of Jean and to finally take the next step in life and get married. His marriage was meant to develop his character beyond his obsession with being the field leader of the X-Men.
It was also done so CC could develop Storm (his admitted favorite X-Man) into the leader she is today.
Dr & Rogan - That was a joke. Yeesh lighen up. I actually like Scott.
Anf Rogan believe or not, not everything I write about the X-Men is a jab at you. How many times do I need to tell you that I LIKE Claremonts old stuff. And I still like him today. How many times do I need to tell you you this? I'm getting really sick of seeing you write "It's a jab at me" everytime I make a joke about the x-men. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU.

You have to lighten up, too, DC. It's all in fun between you and I. I know you USED to like CC. Now I poke FRIENDLY fun at you to bring you back to the CC-Fanboy fold.
You will see the light and realize Claremont is still the greatest and it is just Editors that ruin all his amazing ideas.
And, on final note:
I meant what I said in one of your Relation Review Threads. If you want help/advice/someone to bounce ideas off of when it comes to the X-Men I will gladly help you.
This CC thing has got to stop ro-gan. I'm worried that your habit is doing some irreparable (sp?) damage to your mind. Anyway, the only thing that ever keeps me from reading JSA (besides money) is the fanatic nature of the JSA readers. CHILL OUT, everything will turn out all right.
I personally think the review was pretty good since not only have team formations sprouted from it but in the ensuing replies I actually learned more about the JSA than I knew before, got at least 3 Hawkman origins, and now have a desire to go buy a graphic novel. Good job, DC, and way to fill in the blanks all you true JSA fans.
Peace, C

UM you said that GL protected Gotham before Bats well I dont know much about the JSA. But I know that Alan Scott first apeared in 1940 and Batman 1939. Correct me if Im wrong.

Alan, went from city to city fighting crime, before settling in Capitol City.
1/6th of the Brothers Prob. '19-'20 Season: 15-13(8 events) 2 wins, 2nd XDPS PR 9-7, 7th SOC
You're correct on the timing, I think. But GL did reside in Gotham for a time. Get this: much like Superman working for a "major metroplitan newspaper, Alan Scott, with his background in engineering, got a job in radio so he would be close to breaking news and could react quickly to emergencies as the Green Lantern.

Current continuity-wise, GL was there first. It's this slick time-travel thing DC does to keep Batman from becoming the doddering senior-citizen he ought to be.
I'm glad you're enjoying JSA, Dark Crisis. Better late than never.
Try not to take all the criticism too personally, but some characters deserve to be treated with a little reverence. Hearing somebody ridicule characters that they admittedly know little about tends to get us old readers a little riled
First of all, great job Rouge2 for actually being the one person in the entire northern hemisphere who can explain Fury's post-crisis continuity and make it make sense.
Pardon me while I attempt the same with Hawkman.
First of all, it's important to understand the concept that there are actually three different Hawkmen in DC Comics' continuity, and yet, there's only one at the same time.
The story of Hawkman begins in ancient egypt, where Prince Khufu ruled with the wizard Nabu as his advisor and the foreign heavyweight Teth-Adam as his bodyguard (How's that for historical synchronicity?) Khufu and his lover managed to tick off the priest Hath-Set, who killed them both in a jealous rage, but not before cursing the both of them. They would be eternally reincarnated, doomed to forever love each other, and each life would end only in sorrow. Hey, it was Egypt. They talked like that back then.
Fast forward a few thousand years, past several hundred lifetimes all over the world, including at least one as a costumed hero in the old west, and we have society playboy Carter Hall. Cartar became the golden age Hawkman, using a pair of wings fashioned from the "magic" Nth metal that had been salvaged in ancient egypt from a crashed alien spacecraft. No one on Earth even knew the name Thanagar yet, but that will come into play later. Carter teamed up with Shiera Saunders, who later married hima nd became the first Hawkgirl (possibly not in that order).
The second Hawkman was actually a Thanagarian policeman by the name of Katar Hol. He and his parter Sheyara Thal came to earth hunting an escaped criminal, a shapeshifter named Byth. He also adopted the guise of Hawkman, with Sheyara by his side as the more-PC Hawkwoman.
Then, it gets hinky. During the grand muddle DC calls Zero Hour, which was supposed to fix all the plot-holes left from their first muddle, Crisis, a blast of chronal energy pierced Katar Hol and Carter and Shiera Hall at the same time, merging the three of them (and any other loose hawk-threads DC could think up later) into a new Hawkman, who was supposed to be some sort of Hawk-avatar/Hawkgod...something. Technically, this Hawkman still called himself Katar Hol, and thought of himself that was, but it got weird really fast.
This was kind of in that era when DC got really too cerebral for its own good. They'd had some great successes with Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, and Animal Man, and some genius up at the editorial level decided that ALL comic book fans wanted books like Vertigo. So we had winners like the "New" Hawkman, The Spectre fighting the "Spirit of America", and Green Arrow turning into an eco-terrorist. The only saving grace, if you can call it that, of this Hawkman, in my opinion, is that fact that he was a member of the JLA, back when it was all about the blood, guts, and whether Guy Gardner or Lobo could kill the most aliens in a single issue. This would be the same JLA that turned urban vigilante El Diablo into a giant, flaming mexican god-thing. Yeeeeah.
Then, we get to the culmination of the Hawkman mythos. The current Hawkman is a sort of blending of all three Hawkmen who came before. The current JSA travels across the galaxy to the planet Thanagar, where the new Hawkgirl (did we mention she's both the niece of the golden age Hawkgirl AND her reincarnation? Bring on the spider-clones. Please.) Where the new Hawkgirl reaches into the "Well of Souls" and pulls out Carter Hall. Only he's got brown hair instead of the original blonde. Turns out that Cater met Katar in that other dimension he was in, and a little bit of Katar rubbed off on him. Carter can now actually REMEMBER every lifetime he's ever lived, as well as some sort of racial memory of all Thanagarians. So he's really the original Hawkman and at the same time he's ALL of them. He's completely in love with the new Hawkgirl, yet he's convinced himself that the only chance either of them has for a happy life is to "just be friends". Sounds like my ex-girlfriend. Oh, and he collects charcoal rubbings of his own tombstones.
Short version of the History of Hawkman? This guy makes Jean Grey's history seem sane.
Now, can anyone explain to me why Sue Dibney is starring in the pages of Justice League Classified? Didn't Meltzer and Morales kill her last year?
Order 66 - It's not just policy, it's fun, too!

IIRC, JLA Classified isn't a "current" series, per se. The stories in the series can come from anywhere in the JLA timeline. Just consider the current storyline happening just after "Formerly Known As" and prior to "Identity Crisis."

"I see your schwarz is as big as mine!"
hehe, Well Ro-ggie I still have my near mint complete Claremont run of Uncanny. And I do have that sweeeeeeeet Days of the Future past trade signed by Byrne and Claremont (1st edition) that I picked up in a comic book store for 15 bucks out of the bins (They didn't know it was signed).
I disagree that Scott was written best under CC however, I'm a big fan of Scott Lobdell's work and the opening run of X-Men (When they seperated into Blue team, Gold team).

Maybe not bigger, but it's all in how you use it...

I actually have ALL of CC's run on UXM, XM, XXM and other minis here and there throughout the years.
All 1st Prints and all NM or better. Mr. Claremont signed over 30 books for me back at 2003's WWE Philly Con. He even personalized UXM #94 to me. Carp In A Hat! I was in Fanboy Heaven that day. Especially after we chatted for quite some time about alot of topics. CC is a great guy in person and that is why I will tout his name and protect his image when the naysayers surface.

That is pretty much when I stopped buying all X-Books. I didn't like the direction the stories and characterizations were going.
I sure do hate Storm too.
Not me. 'Ro has always been one of my favorites next to Kitty, Logan and Kurt.
