Walter held the lawman in one ######## hand, Dredd's feet not touching the floor. Encouraged by their win, Walter jutted out his tusks and tried to look menacing. "Look, we didn't want this fight, but we've certainly ended it. Now tell us where we are and what's going on or..or we'll have to get nasty."
<THUD>
"OOOOOHHHHHH!"
Dredd's groin kick had taken Walter by suprise, and he bent over in pain, but did not drop the much smaller man. Walter shook him, "What is wrong with you? Don't you know that you're beaten?"
Dredd gave Walter a right cross against the jaw. "You didn't beat me furball, you just beat me up. You'd have to kill me to beat me, and I'm not even sure that would stop me from coming after you." He started punching Walter again.
The blows weren't hurting, Walter was more suprised than anything else. "Does this guy ever give up?" He turned to Kyle and Jean-Paul, but they just shrugged, clearly amused.
"You should try working with him. He's got a thicker head than a Cursed Earth T-Rex," said Anderson, as she got to her feet with a groan. She helped Blair to stand.
Just then Puck staggered in, ashen faced. For a moment they thought he was going to be sick.
"What is it Eugene?" asked Walter with concern, momentarily distracted away from the punching.
Puck rubbed his head, his hand unsteady. "I've seen alot of death. Took part in wars, rebellions, but what I saw up there...I don't have the words."
Dredd stopped punching Walter and turned to Anderson. "We need to get up there before they can get a foothold or we're all dead. What about these bozo's, are they Cursed Earth?"
Anderson concentrated for a moment. "No, scan says they're from an alternate Earth where their government sponsors mutants for a special task force."
Dredd looked down at the huge creature that was dangling him in the air. "Your sentencing will have to wait till later. We have a situation, and you can all consider yourselves deputized. Follow me and do as I say."
The Flighters were speechless. Even beaten and dangling from a giant hand he was still authoritive.
Jean-Paul nearly holwed in indignation. "Je ne crois pas cet homme fol!"
Anderson laid a hand on Walter's massive arm and psychically reassured him. "Joe is not the greatest diplomat, but he is the best Judge, and this is a desperate situation. Up in the penthouse is death, pure and simple. It's linked to your universe too, I can feel it. If we let it get loose both our worlds will be charnel houses."
Walter nodded and released Dredd, who straightened his uniform and marched off like he was leading cadets. "Come on, we don't have much time."
Anderson, Blair and Alpha Flight hurried to catch up to him. Jean-Paul brought up the rear, muttering to himself. "Huh, m'indiquant POUR se dépêcher? L'Anglais Fol."
Concluded in Alpha Flight #3, available next month
