Bah, Count Nefaria as part of Hydra? He's the head of the Maggia! The Dreadnoughts worked for both, so they can have the Hydra TA. When Hammerhead and Silvermane get figs, whoever wrote that is in deep trouble!
Excellent article! While scenarios are generally enjoyed by players of both MechWarrior and MageKnight, they are arguably more critical to the game "feel" in HeroClix than any other Clix game.
@SimonMoon5: Actually, figure sculpt and abilities are required, I believe, to be approved by DC/Marvel reps before they can go into production.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
“No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.”
The thematic element is what keeps me playing this game. I've given up RPGs and Wargaming after a long and dubious career. I remember the original battletech and the old MArvel Superheroes RPG (probably the best superhero game ever made). Actually if I could find players for that I wouldn't even play heroclix. In fact Feat cards are kind of a rip off of MSH's old power feats, come to think of it. That old game almost perfectly captured the feel of the comics it represented.
But HeroClix is my only indulgence now and it seems to lack some of that flavor. Some of the scenarios are pretty cool but it's hard for me to find players to play them. :disappoin
*sigh*
I understand that there are some sacrifices made in the name of game balance but I wish I could fight for some purpose.
"A good warrior fights only when he knows he can win... A great warrior fights only when he knows he will win"
Nailed it master I agree 100%. Much like the comic book industry itself without plot purpose what is the motivation. At first it was cool to introduce my son to all these superheroes and open up my large collection to him and he asked me why I stopped collecting. Simple storylines are repetative. Much like the mechanics of heroclixs dictate which character has the best chance of succes. When we play together or go to tournies he has is 200 and 300 teams no imagination no creativity. I come from a role playing background so purpose is important. Who wants to play for 2 or 3 hours rolling dice? When was the last time any of us went to a yatzee tournament or over to a buddies to play. Thought so. Storyline is essential whether scenario or simple get and retrieve object and get back before other team can stop you. Options are as open as your imagination and anyone with enough creativity to want to play this game can come up with reasons their group want to fight the others. Three sentences before the fight begins set place mood importance and watch figures become superheroes. I don't know every characters background but I figure Hercules is strong you know what I mean. Alittle role playing helps. Instead of a ranged attack, why cannot Hobgoblin toss a pumpkin bomb at spidey my son ate that up. Who knows you may even expand your comic collection for inspiration. Lastly if you play commonly with a core group try replacing defeated characters from each team. Adds new flavor to a game. Excellent plot twist once player eachs object trade player for equal value character shakes things up quick.
